AI content is well good for a website unless it hurts the Seo if it has no originality in the content. So try creating the article with AI adding originality to the content.
Google devalues. It doesn't harm. There's a big difference.

I can't imagine paying for content these days or writing yourself just for google.... those times are long gone. This is the biggest waste of money and time. AI content is the only way to still make few $ on google... and maybe even more if you are clever and lucky.

Yeah! AI content will affect your SEO.
Two of my sites got hit heavily by google and two sites didn't (and actually are gaining traffic/positions). Content on all of them is edited by me (not copy-pasted from chatgpt) and the approach to creating texts was the same. Honestly, i can't see the logic why one site is hit and another promoted

It doesn't, no.
Trying to detect AI is completely futile. Too many false positives and false negatives.
And it will only get worse and worses with time as more and more AI content gets mixed in and new models are created. It's a losing battle.
Why do you think Google have taken the approach of heavily relying on user engagement?
Right around the time when they switched from saying "content writen by humans for humans" to "content that's helpful to humans". ;-)
Content is judged on whether users like it or not.
Your focus should be on creating content that users want to read and which answers their questions. That's it. Nothing else.

March core update has zero to do with AI detection.
The only way to combat low quality mass produced AI content is by focusing on engagement metrics, and that's what they've done. They started in Sep 2023, but the march one was more extreme.

It can hurt SEO, but it doesn't, for sure, mean it will be penalized by Google. As per my experience, Google tends to focus on the content more and not how that content was created. AI generated content can be SEO friendly as long it is Human edited and provides some value.
I feel for competitive niches AI just isn't good enough
Personally I can spot AI content very easily (also here on the forum) and have grown a distaste towards it
However, that doesn't mean it doesn't work short or mid term, or even long term, because not everyone will notice
