I think most of them earned their money through hard work, and it would be a dickmove to say "Alright, you've got too much so please give us (the government) a big part of your cake."
I think there's not a single billionaire, who is publicly known, that does'nt know that with great money there's great responsibility. That's why they give dozens of millions of dollars to charity.
They are builders, they create jobs, they create value (not exclusively billionaires, but entrepreneurs in general). If we would'nt allow them to exist, we would be 1 step closer to communism / hardcore socialism and I don't want that to happen..

I think they need to be more accessible, the Billionaires. Not one of them has given me any money for any of my business ideas.

I’ve got an idea for a site that uses pranks to put social pressure on billionaires who don’t “give back” enough, what do you guys think?

Then why even have money in this world? Let's go to Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future where money doesn't exist and everyone is just good and wants to work to contribute to the whole of humanity. I do think many of the billionaire's are awesome people, and not because they have a billion dollars....you have to have a good set of values, beliefs, morals, character, consistency, etc to make it to that level. So clearly they have some very stable mindsets and personality traits.

But let's see this world go to a "no money" system where money no longer exists and everyone just contributes out of the goodness of their hearts and altruism. Let's see how that works. The result will be the answers to all the questions about this.

    Yes, totally. Why not.

I don't aspire to be one, and I wouldn't like it. But we shouldn't put limits on people who do. What they do with their money, the result of their efforts and achievements is none of my business. Doesn't make me a better or worse person.

That's never gonna happen, The nature of Humans is to exploit anything and everything, we exploit the nature animals anything weaker than us we even exploit microorganism to make medicine from them, you can't deny millions of years of evolution coz some people fell things will work out for the better, without the rich and without their massive co. we won't have innovation new breakthroughs nothing, everything you use now has been the results of the people who have the drive and work hard to make the money the explosion of technology in the last 50 years is nothing short of a miracle, and because of the incentive of money we will see more of this tech in every field from luxury to medicine to comfort or making food. let's take an example of the smartphone you have in your hand, it is one of the most important inventions in the history of mankind, you have unlimited access to all the information from any part of the world/time look at what it can do from social interaction to learning to grow your knowledge to entrainment to contacting anyone at any part of the world, access to information, able to organize for events or protest and many more and that's all because people wanted to make money, Make no mistake this innovation would never have happened if it wasn't for Capitalism and the greed of people to make money,

Most of you don't know what a *billion* represents. It's more money than you'll ever need for ten generations in your family. That's way too much and nobody should earn such money considering all the poverty in the world. Even if you invent a device that allow people to live longer you don't deserve this money, so no way a marketer or Bezos-like should earn this.
However, a few dozen millions is okay :)

PS : @highmike please don't talk bad about people who don't have the same opinion as you, show more respect mate, thanks

Absolutely! If you make billions of dollars you should be able to keep it, of course.

Hmm think before most were just multigenerational families from large corps. But now it seems like there's big money that even the average person could eventually get to. Of course the chances are prob slim, but one big Facebook or Amazon idea lol.

I believe that the good nature of people should mean that those who have reach a billion dollars in net worth have the capacity to spread the wealth. However, I think people should have the tact to be charitable on their own, instead of the government needing to intervene. We are breeding a culture of selfishness and entitlement by both the wealthy and the people who think they deserve a piece of their money.

If I vote no, will they simply disappear in a puff of smoke? A bit like the Chinese government do to their billionaires!

If they can get to a billion through heavy taxation, then yes.

there's no answer to this question coz no billionaires started with a motive of being a billionaire. They loved what they did so much and understood people need that money started following them. You can't really stop them from billionaires,

Pretty sure that a considerable amount of billionaires started with the motive of being a billionaire or making as much money as humanly possible. They were just a) good at what they did/do, b) lucky, or c) lucky and good.

    You want proof?

    How about Bill Gates...

“If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor its your mistake.”

He was good at what he did, worked hard, was bloody lucky and has done an awful lot of good with his money.

Except Windows Vista of course  There is a reason why in the year that MS released Vista that Bill announced his 2 year transition out of MS...

Bill Gates was the son of wealthy parents, his father was a partner in the law firm Preston Gates & Ellis, his mother was on board of directors for First Interstate BancSystem and the United Way. Bill got a sweetheart deal from IBM, in part due to his mother serving on the United Way board with Jon Opel, chair of IBM. He may be self-made, but he isn't self-started.

Almost half of billionaires are either inherited into their wealth or a mix of inherited and business acumen to continue running a business that was already successful successfully.

However much I disdain the circlejerk of Steve Jobs, he is a much better argument of self-made principles than Bill Gates. Steve Jobs was adopted by Paul Jobs, a mechanic and a carpenter, and Clara Jobs, who was a payroll clerk for Varian Associates. Neither of his adoptive parents had the opportunity to attend college. Jobs sold his minivan and Wozniak sold his HP scientific calculator to initially fund development of the Apple I.

But keep in mind when we think "billionaire", many can only name a small handful of the over 2,000 billionaires there are. Don't classify a subset of a population based on "JeffBill ZuckerJobs MuskBuffett".

    So lucky and good.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have certainly done a LOT of good in the world.

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/mar/16/what-is-the-bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation

"In total, the fund has given $32.9bn in grants to health programmes around the world. Its work focusses on prevention, immunisation and vaccination."

    An AWEFUL LOT of good.
