i have developed a site that is USA nationwide,
but every single search is localized,

i.e.
plumbers in new york
new york plumber

out of all the tens of thousands of searches it has received (in google search console)
not a single search is for a zipcode, they are all "name of place" & "plumber" etc

i was under the impression that a percentage of people still used zipcodes to search.

do people still use zipcodes to search for local businesses ?
& is it still worth using zipcodes in page titles ?
i.e. does it help google localize the page to the area they are searching from.

I have a few clients with local businesses and I have only seen zip code searches in a few European cities.

For some tourist destinations, the zip code says a lot, so I'd usually see some weird numbers in analytics

Otherwise I haven't seen zip codes bring in any significant traffic elsewhere. Tho others may have different experience.

never ever once used a zipcode to search for any local services in US! not sure if I ever seen any of my friends and family members doing this.

update: another thing: most US folks are clueless on their surrounding zip codes!

i thought it was the other way around, i thought zipcodes were worth targeting in page titles.

its only usa traffic & only usa towns, havent received a single zipcode search.

It's not that popular for US traffic, not sure about EU or Middle East.

thanks for the responeses, i think its unanimous that zipcodes dont get searched for in the usa then ?

No, I think no one use zipcode, for searching for any service, yes people do search for zip codes when it's necessary for document or to look for some location, but from a business point of view, zip codes are not worthy enough, use GEOloaction keywords with names, places. so in my opinion no need to work on zip codes, the rest it's up to you.

i just checked google search console again & out of tens of thousands of placenames used for searching, not a single one was a zipcode

I think people stop using zip code for search.

Use only work name on google map for searching any place

I've only searched for the town or county, never ZIP or postal code

I'm in the US and when I am looking for something local I use zip codes every time.

If nothing is local enough I use zip codes of the larger cities around me.

Seems, according to the above comments, it is not all that common and perhaps I do that is because I was in the transportation business and we sorted everything by zip codes and I guess that stuck.

i dont know if its dependant on the thing they are searching for, i.e. car repair, restaurants, lawyer etc etc

also the age, according to info i found online, older people are more likely to use zipcode & place name & younger people are more likely to search for "near me" or just "car repair" because they know that google localizes everything
