Hello,

Im searching for a realiable hosting for my website, im facing DdoS attacks, siteground is too bad for this.

I see everywhere VPS and dedicated hosting, the prices are very different from each other. Dedicated hosting is much more expensive

But what is the difference between VPS and dedicated hosting ?
I have a wordpress website
And i dont have any coding skills..

Thanks in advance

Firstly, before considering transferring your website elsewhere. Make sure you have Cloudflare setup. This can help prevent the Ddos attacks.

If you do still want to transfer, then a VPS is probably best. A dedicated server is normally for those needing more storage, processing power etc.

But what is the difference between VPS and dedicated hosting ?
VPS hosting can literally means anything, including dedicated hosting.
But most commonly due to being "cheap" you are sharing resources with other people.
Resources such as CPU, RAM, IP etc to name a few

While dedicated hosting as the name suggests, it's dedicated to you only.
Dedicated hosting can be a VPS or something else like cloud hosting.
The main and sole reason dedicated hosting is typically alot more expensive is, because all the resources are exclusively used for you and only you.
Meaning, if you are only ever utilizing10% of the CPU at any given times and 15% cpu max at spikes, then so be it.

VPS hosting means VPS (Virtual Private Server), means the host can create virtual servers out a real backend node with real hardware, and then allocate them to clients, these will be virtual resources, and a host can easily oversell the real resources and you can see a bad performance, with a dedicated server, you always know what you are buying as the whole hardware and network up link connection is dedicated to your server, so its more reliable, also DDOS is a different thing, you can either use cloudflare free CDN and DDoS with your host, or its much better if your host can offer your DDoS protection on the server level. A VPS or dedicated server with no DDoS protection will act same and goes down, when a DDoS attack happens, so you surely need a DDoS protected server.

dumbed down version(just for others who may not understand):
example:
dedicated server = 12ram - 4cpu
a dedicated server may be split up into 10 VPS
so
VPS = 1.6ram 1cpu(1 core, not one ghz, but .25 of a cpu)
thats why the price difference

Thank you guys for clarifying.
Why i want to switch from shared to VPS/Dedicated server

I've setup Cloudflare via a consultant, works very well. On big attacks it blocks 95-100%.
Sometimes a little bit traffic is coming into origin server (Cloudflare takes 2-3 minutes to detect DdoS)

And that little traffic takes my origin server down (5k requests and everything is down)

So i want to eliminate the 4 minute risk of going down

Yes, as explained before, you surely need a DDoS protected dedicated server (protection at the server level), it might be a bit expensive specially in an offshore location, but it will be worth it, I think DDoS protection with upto 500gbps or 1tbps will do fine along with cloudflare DDoS protection, it will surely eliminate any down times.
