Deleted Analytics (MAJOR SERP RISE!)

How many guys actually got results from this? I didn't really think that this would work but oh well. I am looking for some answers and statistics.

I see no reason not to use Google's tools, unless you are doing some serious black hatting. I would like to see some results when people add G Analytics back to their account a month or two from now.

I think it might be a coincidence, but, Google also will be compiling all of this data somewhere. There are other options of analytical software, and some are better than GA. Like others said it's hard to avoid a Google product now days, but I keep laughing at the following idea:

How could Google send me a "stop building un-natural links" email via Google WMT if I'm not using WMT :) - yea okay they'd just "slap you" but still, food for thought.

Considering they contact you via this method I'd think it'd be pretty naive to think they're not looking at the data from this tool, (WMT) Just a thought. Gonna set up a few sites now and keep them Google product free, see how it goes.

I am still ranking in the 1st page of google after I removed my GA. Gonna try on another new site :P

I guess it's time to remove Google Analytics from few of the sites to test out.

I agree with you. The email is an obvious clue that they are looking at the data from webmaster tools.

The email is an obvious clue that they are looking at the data from webmaster tools.

SERIOUSLY?!

By the same logic:

I can't have my electricity cut off, because I don't have a mailbox, and how can the electric company send me a bill without a mailbox? And how can they cut me off if they don't send me a bill?

ROTFLMAO

WMT is data Google has with or without you
IF you sign up for it, then you get the notice when you are cut off
if you DON'T sign up for it, then they just cut you off without telling you

one of the ways you can understand this is irrelevant to whether or not you have WMT:
if you get cut off first, then sign up to WMT, the notification email will be there waiting for you.

BTW - people can have this argument about analytics, but WMT doesn't even install anything on your website - it's not tracking anything ON your website - it's showing you offsite and crawling data.

I just deleted my Analytics account—I'll post an update if anything seems to change. I switched to clicky for stats.

I've never used GA, why give them your info!? I preach this in every thread, do not use it. Ranking #1 spots for keywords, you don't need to let Google spy on your private site info.

Please define "private site info". What do you think Google can get with GA installed, that it cannot get with it not installed.

I removed analytics code, sites are not hit or the traffic is not falling with any update. But I lost the adsense revenue after first panda. I don't know what kind of traffic is keeping my stats up.

With GA installed, G now has access to:

* Accurate traffic data for js enabled traffic.
* Browser / geo etc. distribution of your traffic and thus demographic info.
* Accurate bounce rate (not just estimated from bounce back to the serps).
* Accurate referral traffic from non Google sources (i.e. every page / link that send actual real visitors - links from urls that don't send traffic may be devalued); your proportion of Google traffic vs other sources (sites that get little direct referral traffic other than from Google may be devalued) - both of these things are mentioned in Google patents.
* Accurate time on site and page views per session, metrics of user engagement (i.e. is the site sticky and do users stick around?)
* View of paths through site and off the site - if sites that you link out to also have GA installed, they can see the traffic that you refer to them through referrer data and cookies.
* Return (bookmarked) user visits over time - proportion of visitors that bookmark and return to your site later, and what they look at when they come back.
* What parts of your site don't get any direct user clicks i.e. that may be obscured from real visitors that click around, and only exist for search engine benefit.

That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I could think of a few more things.

Autumn excellent post!

This is so important to me.. You're letting Google know you bounce rate from Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Bing, Yahoo, Every Other Website Linking To You, People who bookmarked your site, Direct visits from people typing in your URL, Review sites (for local businesses) etc. They now have access to literally everything.. Let's say your bounce rate is 95% from Reddit, which in most cases it will be since the traffic there moves fast.. Do you really want that to affect your overall bounce rate? That will make your overall bounce rate skyrocket.. That's private information you shouldn't be sharing with Google.. What looks better them seeing your bounce rate is 30% from the serps, or them seeing your bounce rate is 60% from all sites, it's easy to figure it out. Before Google could only go on the SERP bounce rate, which is what we want!.. But now they get the full picture and it can end up hurting you. Now keep in mind that is just one factor Google now access to, and there's many more..

Also people expecting their SERPS to rise from this.. It's unlikely. You've already given them all of your site data for them to make a fair assessment, you can't really go back once you do it. That's like handing someone your entire life story, the good and the bad, and then telling them to forget all of that and just go off your resume for a job interview.. People remember the bad parts, Google remembers the bad parts, it's set it stone.. you can't really expect for them to just ignore it after the fact. In due time will it help? Maybe but it hasn't been tested enough to make a proper remark, but we can try to make an educated guess, and mine would be that in time it will benefit you as that past data becomes less relevant/useful. My only advice would be when making a new site don't use GA...

It may be coincidence, but on the first place you should not use google analytics. I got one adsense account banned because of that.

I am confident that applies to rankings too. I hope they do not spy on gmail.

I did the same exact thing about 2 days ago. No major change in my ranking yet but I don't know if this can really help.
