So I was having a grand ole time looking at my traffic stats at analytics, although I never really saw the ranks that I wanted on the serps. I have been doing a good amount of linkbuilding and thought "man it sure is tough to rank this" but maybe all along it was just because G00gle didn't believe me?

It's tough to pin point this but THE DAY AFTER I deleted it, I went up from page 5 to page 1. 44000 exact match search. Keep in mind that this was along with some links I have purchased here, it may be coincidence that they all happened to help at the same time. I've also been doing some different techniques with twitter, like only posting my url so that it isn't shortened.

Really there is alot of things going on right now that might have somehow done this by itself or in conjunction, although I can't help but wonder if it's all because they can't see my traffic (which was weak).

Anyone else have so much dramatic rank increase after deleting analytics recently? Or ever?

easy way to test....add it back again and see if you drop

wow very interesting!

ive heard other stories of people deleting webmasters tools and analytics also

Well, that would be a good way to test! Should I turn this into a "case study"? Not sure I want to loose rank for this niche! I think I'll do it just because it would benefit the group. Thanks for the idea..

Subscribed. I would like to know more about this!
Well, I guess stay tuned!

I haven't lost WMT yet, because, supposedly, they only show you what they already know/are already using.

There's something about using g00gle's tools that gives you some sort of "insight", like now you know why you are wherever you are, although I recall a post about how their stats are total BS and don't reflect actual data...

Everyone else, if you could provide input:

I would like to keep my ranking, and I feel like providing the data to g00gle a second time would really affect rank position. Would resubmitting the site verify the illegitimacy of my site? It's pretty BH...

This sounds coincidential. While the only thing you may have been able to observe was removal of analytics there are literally a million other factors that could have affected the outcome.

But hey maybe I'm wrong. Worth testing I suppose.

I actually did this recently. I took a minor (but still annoying) hit from the June 8th Panda update so I removed analytics from my site. My rankings have been increasing ever since.

Granted, I also implemented a Panda Recovery plan, but that shouldn't have kicked in this early.

It may be coincidental, but I don't think it is. What better way for Google to spy on your site then to be the main analyzer of it?

Well, this story would be valid only if you didn't built links concurrently.

Totally valid point, which is why I ask for some posts from someone more advanced in the theory.

It's true that this could be completely coincidental, although one has to ask. Not literally a million, but yeah there are a few factors that coincide.

I'm having a hard time resubmitting my site to analytics because this just became a pretty decent site... After consideration, I don't think I want to do it unless someone else has submitted to it multiple times and been okay...

Great! More reason for me NOT TO resubmit this site!

Guys, I just did it for another site (removal), we'll have to wait and see if it does any better. That site has been stable without anything linking to it for a bit

Do you have to delete the whole analytics account or just the code from your site?

Im not keen on deleting my whole account because I have a lot of good date in there.

Ok, I am going to put this theory to the test.

I just removed the analytics code from my website.

I have dropped a few spots after penguin on 1 keyword, and 20+ pages on 2 others.

I have not done any link building with this website in a few months. So, any changes, will be a direct result of this.

Don't fix what isn't broken. What if he changes it back, and drops, then takes it off again and doesn't move back up. I would leave that site as is, then build another site and try it again.

This happened to me months ago, when I deleted the analytics the traffic and ranking improved within 2 days. I put the analytics back after a week and the ranking was still there...it held number positions for several keywords for several months, until Penguin rolled out on the 24th of April.

My guess was, the deletion of my Analytics was coincidental with the boost in rankings.

Great! Thanks for doing this, please update us with your info...

Exactly my fear right there. Don'want to lose any taction here with this niche. It's competitive and profitable

Well it's all a guess then huh? I wonder how it'll work out for my study site?

I just deleted mine and also my Google webmaster site. I will let you know how it goes.

Think logically for a second. If you were Google and wanted to "cure the web of spam," wouldn't you too spy on the sites which your analytics product so closely evaluates?

I would.

I am subscribing to this thread to see future results.
