Content Writing and Beyond

First, I want to say reading this thread has been a serious inspiration. I've trying to crack the content writing scene, but it seems I've been playing my cards wrong. I've written over 20 articles at Textbroker within the last two weeks or so, and though the work is easy, the payment is less than fair. I was hoping you'd give me some advice as to how I'd go about finding more prospective buyers that are willing to pay more money for quality work. I've tried fiverr to no avail, and the other content sites such as iwriter and Odesk, but they have too little work to keep someone with pocketfuls of time busy. So can you help a newb and fellow writing brother out? Your time and advice is in good hands :)

Update: This guy on fiverr sent me 5 orders. I get paid $20 for this but I still spent about 2 hours per article. Unfortunately he decides he does not like them even though he gave me no guidelines except a keyword and a few page titles. I ended up asking to cancel because if I had to manually fix every problem he had I would need to spend another 10 hours doing it. That would equate to $1 an hour. I'm very frustrated that I lost the money but I am confident I can make it back

Update: Like I said I got jiffed out of $20 today, rather than be mad I just returned the money on Fiverr and got two new buyers who are paying me my own rate. I made the money back pretty quick. I suppose the moral is never get to down or angry because those who stay positive succeed.

Total Profit: $40 (this is still after I lost that $20)

Hey there,

It's great to see people taking interest in becoming solid content writers. My biggest advice is to network, network, network. People will always hire the ones they are most comfortable with. I had spent over a year writing $4 articles, then started asking for tips (this was on Fiverr) and now I am here and I am charging my own rates. It is wonderful.

I went to the beach today watching the NBA Finals now, did not do much writing. Had a blast though :).
 
Update: Got back into things today, recieved a $50 order and have joined the yahoo contributor network (looking to make at least $20 a day there). Life is looking well :).
 
Update: Another $50 day. I am loving life!

I am stocked that I came so far from writing one $4 article on Fiverr a day.
 
Update: Looks Like I am being paid, $160 up front to do some more work for one buyer. I have yahoo income coming and I am just working hard to constantly improve. I love live.

I'm hoping to have similar success as you with writing website content! This thread has been very helpful as I'm not signed up to a few more sights which should hopefully lead to more sales! Best of luck :D
 
Thanks for the positive words guys. It might sound crazy as a freelance writer but my goal right now is to make 1,000 USD a month until September when school starts.

One of the best ways to help your business model is by actually becoming a verified seller where
you can sell on the forum and advertise within the terms of service. Matter of fact if you become
a Jr.VIP which obviously needs to happen you can conveniently place a sales banner in your signature
leading to more targeted leads from people looking for a legitimate content creator.

This will legitimize the whole process and help your business.

Getting jvip isn't possible right now since I haven't been a member long enough yet/post count. On top of that I don't have the spending power currently to throw 130 usd around. When all of that is possible I would have no issue at all getting JrVIP and working as a direct seller here. For now I'm content with Fiverr, yahoo, and freelance listings. I know that my content is top notch it's just a matter of waiting for the right time to invest in this forum!

Clearly this isn't a journey thread and nothing but a sales thread outside the BST. Now you're thanking BHW for their business? Your first post details your qualifications and experience as a content writer setting yourself up for PM or Skype orders!

Hold your horses. I don't contact anyone here outside the freelance section who needs a writer . When someone here thanks me in my thread for my work, I do common curtesy and thank them rather than brush them off. I'm sorry you feel like this is a Buy/sale thread but I don't even ask people to order nor do I share my current rate. I update daily/when I can about my earnings and knit picking a few posts and acting like I'm trying to sell anything is a bit much. Saying I got a buyer from here is pointless also because anyone from here will be a freelance hire almost exclusively from the freelance forum. I also can not control others messaging me asking for my rates on this thread.

Update: Today was interesting. One of my buyers had told me a few weeks back to do a review on a product for them and rather than pay they would send me the product. I was hesatant at first but the product looked cool. I never recieved the product. I asked them today and they said that it would never be coming. I am not really mad. I just deleted the stellar review off the merchant site. I think the lesson I learned from this is to not negotiate in being paid by "cool" things. Was paid decent today buy another buyer for some real content. I am pretty content with the day. I also watched 21 Jump Street, great movie and I'll be seeing the squeal in the coming days haha.
 
Well you're new around these parts but those of us that have been around for a while have seen members temp banned or perm banned for doing exactly what you've done (and sometimes even less obvious); creating a sales thread outside the BST.

You're on a marketing forum; don't pretend as though you don't know what you've done. You set up the whole first post with your qualifications and experience with a fake scenario of how you're desperate and looking for help while you journey into content writing. What is amusing (not really) was your post on day 7 or 8 where you say you already made thousands writing content completely contradicting your "journey into content writing".

I'm not in the content writing business so I don't give a hoot but clearly recognize when a member is marketing the forum under the guise of a journey thread. Because the Mods haven't taken action on your selling outside the BST, I suppose others will follow your example soon enough.

Carry on mate and thanks for your "generous contribution" to BHW.
