Client wants to pay me $7000 - need advice.

Problem is, he mentioned that one of the dentist's competitors paid a SEO company a one-time fee and they are ranked on the first page, so the dentist has the "proof" he needs that companies will do "proper" SEO for a one-time fee.

Pretty strong objection to overcome. The client probably isn't worth it.
Thats not proof and only a fool would see it as proof. He paid $7k to rank on page 1 right now! See if in 5 years if he drops off page 1 if this "SEO guy" will be around to fix that for him! He wont.

Next thing is who the heck does SEO for $300 p/month? You guys are killing the industry. You realize that the value you bring to the client is worth close to $1k or more yet you guys work for $300? Thats just silly!

Here is my advice, take his offer and create a corporation even better. Do his work for 2 years then close up shop and open a new corporation. This way he cannot sue you personally and there is no corporation to sue anymore.

The BEST option is to let the dentist know that his dentist buddy is going to be scammed. Who would work for $7K for life? No one.

I agree getwhatyouwant. All of the SEOs that I have ever worked for/with, charge the price of a small car per month.

Would pass, but have them prepare a contract and take a look thru first. If you do as a company you can have a way out if need be.

Amsterdammer: that is a new revelation to me, well done, thank you, I will present both of these links to them when I go meet them on the 27th.

For those of you saying walk away: even though the keywords are on page and and are easy to rank/keep them there, you still don't mind walking away from 7K CASH? :)

Actually, I just reread the link and meathead1234's post before replying and had a revelation as well. This is definitely a scam and it is actually explained too.
I have it bookmarked as a method now but wonder how he fixed his social nr.
People are bound to sue him. Your client for starters...

As a working method though, the link combined with meathead1234's post is a working way in my humble opinion. Provided you have the cash to set it up.

But about the revelation and I may be totally stupid here because I have a lot to learn. But since you know what you are doing, here is an idea.

I would go in. Prove this to be a scam with the links. Then pitch the second link with a twist.
Explain that this guy is just robbing them but they are free to spend their money any way they want. :)

BUT if they DO want to talk about a lifetime contract you can help them but not for that price.
Even if you look at his own Blog they can work out there is no way to do it for free on that price.
Scroll down a bit, it is actually there. Might be page 6 by the time you read this.
Code:
http://www.mastergoogle.com/blog/page/5
Now, you are perfectly willing to keep working for the regular price but you can also accept them for an investor. This will cost 45.000 :)
I mean... You are only one person and there is only so much one person can do in a day... You need hosting, legit backlinks that last in the meathead1234 way.... software written.... All this doesn't come cheap and you were working up to it, but this would set you up for life.
With that money they will give you the opportunity to expand and with that gain more clients, have the money to create your own network, advertise or do whatever. It is a deal that helps both for life.
The way I am thinking is if you have 7K to spend like meathead1234 said is enough to provide the needed results, you still have some money to promote your own shop.
I would thank the client most kindly for his trust in me and actually provide lifetime SEO for free. This guy just paid for your setup for life in business and there is nothing wrong with thanking him. :D
You can only do this one time of course and if you honestly explain what you are planning they just might do it. They came to you for a lifetime contract right? You are just having an ambitious plan based on it. It is called seeing opportunities. lol
I mean, you are offering them SEO, not the profits from your eventual enterprise. But, since they are giving you the money for a proper setup and you need 40k at least for that. You are making them some sort of business partner, an investor.
And yes, you make 5K profits on them. We are in business remember?
The 5K gives you bargaining space. :)
Do they really want to deny you profit as fellow business men/women? You need to profit to live right? And nobody is forcing them, they came to you...
Also, it was just a thought. This guy is scamming them and you are not. You are perfectly fine to continue working for them for current rates and they should in no way feel obliged to take the offer. You understand that it is a lot of money but you are a business man. This is a working way if you are legit and this is the only time you will do/need it. After this investment you are set for life so what is 1 site? Can't do it for everyone though for obvious reasons.
And then there is another possibility where they provide you 10 customers. You would provide the SEO for free then too, as long as the 10 ref links last of course. They should realize it actually takes a lot of money to do what you do and you get what you pay for. Nobody can deliver on 7K for life.
/pitch

That was my revelation. I hope you find it useful. :)
Also, you need to be sure you know what you are doing. For me this wouldn't work but for you it just might. I would get sued. lol
I wouldn't pitch it too hard btw. It is just a thought, a working way that helps both.

I also hope to receive a revelation about the social number soon too. Seems hard though.

Also I don't want to sound like a know it all but for those people that say take the money and run or otherwise scam I always think of why this guy said what he said. He was a criminal right?

Just tell him that SEO keeps evolving and there is no point in going for a life time deal, because the cost associated with doing SEO will keep changing, and 7000 USD for life time is a joke.

Change the deal to 7000 USD for two years, and then the contract will be renewed after every year..

Amsterdammer: thank you for that thoughtful, and insightful response, it is greatly appreciated.

He was a criminal right?
Hmm, I wouldn't know.

Hmm, I wouldn't know.

I am glad you like it. :)

I saw some minor flaws in my pitch though. Just basic setup and things like not limiting "for life" to 20 years. That way he is still paying 187.5 a month. He is just doing it upfront. :D
I wouldn't tell him that part though. As a business man he should do his own calculations. A lifetime is not the same as forever I think, you can even make it 40 years but there has to be a limit.

This is for SEO, not the texting service you could provide to his customers for instance. That part is not SEO so it costs extra. This idea comes 6 months down the line. Discounted of course because he is your friend. I would actually give him a better deal than anybody else.
(pitch is flawed but this guy is a genius! http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...19348-offline-video-you-all-should-watch.html )

Anyways, I am rambling. N00bies should know when to stop rambling. :)

I put in the link because my hero lived by those words. Then failed and got shot.
In business it is ok to clean up to a degree, but I think you should always stick to your word. It is all you got and its a small world. Things will come to haunt you in the end.
But, stick to your word and people will trust you. Lots more profit in that. :D

Obviously as mentioned mastergoogle has a ripoffreport. Just mention that to them, no legit SEO consultant would do that kind of deal... That's like a shopkeeper saying give me 20,000$ and you can take stuff for free for your whole life. Yeah, big money, but if someone takes 10 bottles of wine every day and cigarettes every 2 hours, its gonna add up... Yeah, getting offtopic now, but you get my drift. They are just testing you, trying to play you off your competitors, but they probably don't really want to leave you, its just their critical factor kicking in.

Horrible deal.. This dude is trying to rip you off. How can you possibly consider the cost of seo for a lifetime. Great advice in this thread - how did this turn out?

the take money, spend it and the kill yourself after 2 months that should be a lesson for the "lifetime" offers :D

don't undersend 'lifetime' term...
your lifitime?
your company lifitime?
his lifitime?
his company lifetime?
...
What he expect from yor side? N 1 in G00gle?
What will be if you don't give him what he is looking for?
He is ask moneyback? lol

My take on it is-
I really doubt this is a genuine 'lifetime' contract, merely just a turn of phrase. Find out the real amount of time you would be contracted to work for them for, i'm pretty sure you will find out it wont be your entire life!!

I called the local cable company and asked them to run ads for me for life for $7,000, then I emailed google and asked them to do adwords for me for $7k for life.

I got this reply:

LMAO, 7k for life ? -.-".. 7k sounds much but considering that if they want to use you after 40 years, you'll barrely be able to walk straight and you'll be oblidged to do seo... pff

I would have to ask the dentist the question; "why would you want to pay me $7000 upfront for lifetime SEO?" I could be a scammer for all you know! The internet is littered with scammers willing to take your money upfront and if you wanted to persist in paying someone upfront for lifetime SEO work i would have to sadly decline.Being a honourable tradesperson i feel $300 a month is good for you and good for myself. Think about this seriously please Mr dentist? (name)

If they just want you to rank them for their name in their area, and their name is something easy to rank... take it. If they want a package of highly compeditive keywords however... maybe not such a good deal for you
