How do I choose the right server resources for website? Website 1: It is a new ecommerce site and I haven't had even 1 visitor. I will focus on marketing now! I estimate to less than 1k a day. The site runs on woocommerce with a premium wordpress theme. Will a shared hosting be enough or will I need a VPS. If a VPS is needed what plan should I get? Website 2: A movie streaming site running on wordpress. This site is also new and I havent had even 1 visitor.I am aiming to get 10k views a day. All the videos are embedded from the host. I won't be storing any video in my server. Will a shared hosting be enough or will I need a VPS. If a VPS is needed what plan should I get? Thanks
Try ramnode VPS, they are really good for hosting websites, I have used their service couple of times. -Good support -Easy to use -Got good access to the servers too
I can figure out they need a VPS but I confused what package to choose! What should be the ram size, number of cores, bandwidth, etc Most VPS offer 1TB bandwidth so does that mean I will exhaust my bandwidth ~200 complete movie streams? With the traffic I am aiming at, I will exhaust my limits in just a day! No, I don't need an offshore host as it is a legal pay per view site.
If thats the case, and your bandwidth requires are heavy you will need to consider a dedicated server.
With website 1: You need shared hosting is enough, try Zyma.com With website 2: You need a VPS to handle that kind of traffic on a regular basis
whatever you do , don't host ecommerce site with the movies site unless you are sure your users won't mind buying a product from a seller running a movie site as they won't probably check if it's pay per view or not. If you can afford go for a cheap KVM VPS , don't go for OPEN VZ vps. 1 gb ram for ecommerce site and 2 gb ram atleast for the movie site. Discuss with the hosting about the movie site being LEGAL and save the chat transcript.
Sure. Thanks. But how will they able to find that I have the movie streaming site and the e-commerce site together!?
Unless you got Linux experience don't go with those cheap kvm VPS, spend some money and go for managed VPS it will save you a lot of headache, I speak from experience.
I did the whole KVM VPS too to save money and I look things up that I didn't know but Linux server command, installing something from a REPO, setting up things it's a lot of work when you don't know much about it, I eventually switched to managed hosting with 24/7 chat support and a good ticket system, one thing less to worry about it Now of course I would recommend the guys from my banner as I got all my sites with them and the owner is awesome but yeah, plenty of choices out there.
If they are on same IP than finding if they are on same server won't be a problem for a user who knows what TCP/IP is ? for others they might not know until someone leaves a negative review on some review site. It will be a steep learning curve but linux isn't all that difficult with all the support forums for every flavor of linux
You can host your first website on the shared hosting server without any issue. Just you need to make sure that if in the future the resource requirements are going to increase then go with the VPS for it too. Because due to high resource need, site might get down on the shared hosting server. For movie streaming site, VPS is the best. It will full fill your requirement. Before sign-up, you should make sure that the service provider is providing 24x7 service, quality support, proper security setup, firewall setup, best technical support team.
For the first website, you can go with shared hosting plan and as you said the second website has traffic then I would recommend you to go with Linux Managed VPS Hosting for smooth performance
I'd recommend you to use services from time-tested companies, I mean hostwinds.com and kvchosting.net. Severs are wel-ballanced and prices are competitive.
Right servers are available form hostingsource.com and hostround.com. Support is active for 24 hours and prices are competitive.
