I got links at $2 per link for 5 weeks straight, building just 16 links per week and paying extra to keep them on the homepage for 1 month just to make sure I got all the link juice I paid for. So, what happened?
On the second week, the page I pointed the links to got sandboxed. It didn't move an inch forward, even till today. I had to delete the entire site as the domain name had been ruined by these links. I checked my backlinks on Semrush and the majority of the domains had an AS (Authority Score) less than 6. 10 of them were between 10-20 AS, and only 3 domains had more than 20 AS (24, 25, and 49), and I bought links from 80+ domains.
In my experience, even the seemingly good PBN links that cost $10 per link are usually not that good. I once bought these cheap links about a year ago and they worked. I ranked on page 1 but received an unnatural links penalty 3 months later. I didn't care to get it removed because the niche wasn't even as profitable as I expected and thought it was best to move on instead.

If you value your website, avoid cheap links, unless you're running a churn and burn website, which is honestly a waste of time these days. Google has gotten much smarter. You have to adapt or be left in the dust.
I'm never going to purchase links that cost less than $70 per link again. From now on, I'm sticking to high quality guest posts or niche edits, that's if I ever purchase backlinks again. I'm trying out the income school model with my new website and just focusing on writing good content (I'm writing all the content myself). Once I start seeing some progress, I might start a journey thread.
If I ever feel like I need links for this website, then I'll be spending my money on high quality guest posts or niche edits. F#ck all PBNs.
