Categories page ranking root is not?

I have a new small niche wordpress site about 20 days old. Initially it started on the 4th page of gG. The last few days when I check the categories page has taken it's place on page 4 and I can not find my main page in the listing. It has been like this for a few days now.

I haven't done anything black hat, just a few backlink comments and a few forum signatures. Is this normal? Why would a categories page be outranking my root domain that has some on page seo done?

I'm a n00b so I haven't checked any special tools for ranking, but I did do a search on hidemyass to verify it just wasn't something with my IP or cache.

Way too early to be worrying about anything, 20 days is not enough time to have any idea of how Google is going to treat your pages. Stop obsessing about your day to day rankings and just work on your content and links.

Thanks, I wasn't real worried just confused. I mean swapping out the main page for the categories pages was kinda strange. But yes I am focused on content right now.

i think you have to wait dude. don't expect any result from Google in few days. if you see any unethical things don't get worried. wait for a while and you will get the proper result.
