Well, this kind of topic always been hot on the SEO side but the exciting part of it is does it work?
As we know SEO is a vast topic to discuss and it comes with lots of things that matter if you want to rank on google.
It's a genre that changes every day it's like you are in a sea selling at boat some days are stormy and some are smooth. Stormy I do mean google algorithm updates yes man that sucks and on the other hand when you are all set you enjoy the smoothness of the sea.
Now let's Find out does subdomain can rank or not?
well if you ask me hell yes man It can rank far better than a single domain...
well, the main factors are like your main or primary domain is old u might have built some backlinks in it so as u guess your authority of the web is increased so when you create a subdomain on an authority site. hell lot of chances are for you to rank faster than a new fresh domain.
And the next advantages that I will give to a subdomain is that u got to chose your freaking name man well if you try to buy the main domain you might not get the chance to buy a keyword domain. Why am I saying this as u know pal there is a thing called matched keyword domain well nowadays it did not matter a lot but for sure it gives you a slight advantage to crush you opponent.
