Can copyclaiming get you terminated?

The person who told me this wrote that such letters came to him from Routenote, TuneCore and Distrokid. He also said that the letters are exactly the same. He also said that he knows a lot of people who also pirated films and they received the same letters. If you have additional information about the situation with Routenote - write here or on Reddit please. I have been waiting for a response from them for 9 months.

Sorry I don't have any more information on this situation although I am currently researching more into this. That's very interesting your friends got the same letter from different distributors. I am going to assume using the copyright claim method on movies will land you in this situation because all your friends did so and got sent a letter.

If they haven't responded to you in 9 months it might be safe to say they aren't going to take any action against you. Take into consideration the time and cost to actually sue someone isn't worth the money they would win from the lawsuit most of the time. Another user in that reddit thread said he received the same letter even though he hasn't done anything wrong and he speculates it's because the distributor does not want pay out the money he has earned. Until something actually happens there is no clear outcome to this situation.

My guess is they're only going to sue people who have made an extraordinary amount of money from this method but who knows since I haven't found anyone who has been sued for this.

Also were your and your friends songs removed from the Content ID system? Is your distributor still actively claiming? Were your videos also removed or are they still up? I ask this because I have found a couple videos published almost a year ago that used the copyright claim method and they're still claimed by the distributor.

I don't know if they got a letter too but it would be strange if the music distributor did not remove the songs and were still claiming the song aka making money off it.

They are not my friends and I didn't do such things.
I wrote a comment under one of Youtube channels that pirated movies, and the author of the channel answered me.

Oh sorry I misread your message and thought you had some connection with them my bad. Do you know how long were they able to use the copyright claim method before they got a letter?

I don't know how long they have been using this method, but Routenote froze payments to everyone around the end of 2019 (according to the information I have).

In any case, I told the information that I know. Hopefully other people will write their information here when they have it.

I imagine a good rule of thumb if you're doing this is this: would this get taken down by YouTube if I posted it without even trying to monetize it? a movie: yes immediately, a meme compilation: no

I could definitely see them going after someone doing this if they are just straight up posting Ironman and trying to make money off it. You have to be at least a little bit creative here, people. I doubt they'll sue you unless you keep doing it though.

Does anyone continue to monetize YouTube through music Distribution Services?
Do they pay?
Does anyone work with Believe Music?

What I realized is the message you and others have received from the distributor is not directly from the studios/copyright owners. What I believe happened is the distribution companies received a notice from the studios/copyright owner that they were going to sue them instead of the user. To prevent this the distribution companies sent threatening but vague letters to suspected users and then froze their payments to deter them even more. It makes no sense why you wouldn't directly receive a notice from the person/company threatening to sue you, especially by now.

It's nothing more than an empty threat because it makes more sense the studios/copyright owners would sue the distribution company over the user since they have the most money, are profiting from this and most importantly are allowing this to happen on their service. This also explains why you and others haven't received any response or new information about your situation from your distributor for a long time because they aren't after you.

A good example of a copyright owner suing a company instead of the individual users who violated copyright is when Youtube got sued by Viacom for a similar issue https://www.computerworld.com/artic...gle--youtube-hit-with--1b-copyright-suit.html

There is more money to made and less time spent suing the company as whole instead of targeting each individual. Not to say you're 100% in the clear but the chances of anything happening to you is very very low. Them claiming they're "investigating you" is just a way for them not to disclose what's actually going on.

it's not going to stop unless youtube overhauls their copyright system, which they won't since studios/labels/corporations benefit greatly from the current system and youtube is getting a percentage of that money. a person making a few thousand a month from copyright claiming is nothing compared to the millions these big copyright owners make a month. I honestly don't see a problem people using that method since it is a loophole in the shitty copyright system youtube does not care to fix even though it continuously fucks over their creators.

I mean, I'd be understandably pissed if I built a legit distribution company and then some scammers decided to use it to monetize pirated movies that I would then get sued over. You'll have a lot more luck gaming the system if you fly under the radar and don't cause any issues for anyone else.

thing is not about comparing the amount of money small guys make. this is a public method. and when so widely abused it is known that public methods will get patched and not last forever. that's how its always been

The only way to patch it though is to ban all independent distributors from using Content ID, which they can't do. So they just go after the really egregious offenders.

Is there any information on the Internet at all about the "investigation" of Routenote? Has anyone received any information other than reporting that "Routenote is investigating"?
How long to wait for a response from them? Or will there not be an answer and will they just take the money for themselves?

Routenote responded to this reddit post about this exact situation but told the user to email their support team.

That same user made another post a few months after his initial post warning people not to use Routenote because of the same issues you're facing (no info on investigation, frozen payments) and this is after routenote told him to email their support team for more information months prior lol

This is the most new information I have on this situation so far. Routenote does not want to disclose anything publicly and I'm assuming you have emailed their support and have got no answer like the reddit user. Like I stated previously I really doubt there is an "investigation" going on and unless you have the money to sue them I doubt they will ever pay your money and unfreeze your account. People who aren't using the copyright claiming method have run into this same issue as well so you can only imagine how messy this whole ordeal is.

It really does seem like they just took the money, left everyone in the dark and ran lol. The reddit user still seems active on his account so you can try asking him if he has received any new information. After all this research, it has furthered my belief in my "theory" on what's actually going on lol.

MCN will pay you less in comparison with youtube monetization program
But for sure it is the way to go with,
Better then nothing. Try looking for popular mcn's to get connected. Test and try which gives you more $$$$.

I no longer hope to receive my money (which is about $ 40,000).
I wasn't monetizing my content through Routenote, it was compilations of funny videos.
I want to confirm Adsense, and monetize my channel by direct monetization of YouTube (I will do author's content), but I am afraid of this "investigation".
What if I confirm Adsense, and the company will sue me at my address?
And on Adsense, by the way, there is now about $ 7000.

Oh wow. If you don't mind me asking how long did it take you make 40k? About the adsense thing I cannot tell you for certain if it's safe to confirm your information. Maybe you can use a different address?
