College students use financial aid money to invest in bitcoin

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/23/college-students-use-financial-aid-money-to-invest-in-bitcoin.html

I think this is one of the main problems when young people take advice from other young people.

One of most vocal BTC supporters on BHW isn't even legally an adult and lives with his Dad and yet so many people are taking his advice it is mind boggling.

Well it's nothing new really is it. Students will forever be spending their grants and loans on anything but what they are meant for. Then complain how badly done to they are, and expect others to foot the bill for their "education".

I came across an article a few days ago, tho I'm not positive on the validity of it, that they've found hidden pedo and piracy content links hidden inside of the blockchain. If its true, this could result in Bitcoin being banned by any countries that also ban child pornography.

You have some data that gives you cause to make that comment to back that up?
yes i do and you can watch and learn :) real bitcoin traders dont need to justify their predictions ,or take part in a convo with a whole of idiots that know nothing about trading bitcoin

It's fucking embarrassing to read some of the shite here these days. I might go and book myself in rehab with Ant Mcpartlin, till all this shit blows over.

I like all the speculation without any back up information and statistics.

Kind of like getting information from my step-daughter when she was 15.

sigh. here we go again. sure btc can go down to $100 or $3000 or even to $0. nobody denies it. but the reason why I remain bullish on cryptocurrencies is simply because blockchain adoption is real. it's not just bubble out of thin air that will crash and won't go back up. yes, it can crash, absolutely...but it doesnt make sense if it crash and it doesn't go back. I'm not saying about specific coin here (especially BTC) but blockchain adoption should drive the price up. retail investors might be losing interest in this, i'm not going to deny it, and yes the bubble has bursted. but bursted bubble doesnt mean it's simply gone. it might need years to go back up (just like when BTC lost its value from $1K to $2xx, it needed years to bounce back) but i remain confidence crypto is not over yet.

both Ripple and Stellar have done tremendous jobs in lobbying bankers to try their blockchain services and I'm not seeing any backward progress from here. SWIFT has failed tremendously in providing fast transfer. it's slow and it's expensive. this is where blockchain will finally be adopted.

here, i'm just going to drop a link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellar/comments/86ftjh/ama_with_the_head_of_ibm_blockchain_jesse_lund/

This is coming straight from IBM's Jesse Lund. he confirmed many central banks are interested in using IBM service and IBM is teaming up with Stellar. and no, they are not just interested in IBM's hyper ledger service. Jesse Lund confirmed Stellar blockchain will be used and will play very crucial role. someone on reddit also asked Jesse Lund about the role of XLM in case banks chose to create their own tokenized fiat and he said lumens here will still play its role because you need Lumens to "gas" each transaction. he even said "very close" when someone asked him when we can see tokenized fiat from central banks on blockchain. Once again, this is vice president of IBM blockchain, not a hyped crypto expert from youtube.

as for Ripple, their main target in the end is still to use XRP in xRapid to power the banking transactions even though at the moment they get huge critics because their teamwork with banks almost always involve xCurrent (which is not powered by XRP)

IOTA also has been making progress. https://www.coindesk.com/city-of-taipei-confirms-its-testing-iota-blockchain-for-id/

All of these blockchain adoptions are real. these stories are not just coming out of bubble thin air. there are cryptocurrencies that will survive the crash even though of course for now they are going to be dragged down by bitcoin considering most liquidity comes from bitcoin (and rare to see fiat/altcoin get decent liquidity consistently)

what im trying to say here: im not going to deny that bitcoin can keep going down. and my advice to all investors is that you shouldn't put money you can't afford to lose. BUT to deny that cryptocurrencies are just bubble and will die sooner or later is very naive. Look at all the links I gave you above. blockchain adoption is not fake. it's not just 'hyped'. it's real.

all these banks, all these companies, all these regulators they need time before they can massively adopt certain distributed ledger technology. but when the time comes, some cryptos will survive, while most will fail. but it will come. 6 months ago no central bank ever held a talk with IBM blockchain. but now they do. it's not going anywhere. French finance minister even reversed his position on cryptocurrencies.

there's local news from my country where 5 biggest banks there are testing IBM service and my local newspaper also admitted the blockchain service which they test is indeed coming from stellar. here's the link for you: http://www.viva.co.id/digital/985714-keren-5-bank-besar-di-indonesia-bakal-terapkan-blockchain

it's in my language so use google translate. you will see how these 5 huge banks in my country confirmed they are having talks with IBM AND indeed it's stellar blockchain which they are teaming up with

and despite my country is still "third world" but makes no mistake. our e-commerce industry is huge. an uber competitor there (Go-Jek) is valued at more than $1 billion USD even though this same service has no existence elsewhere. A local amazon there (tokopedia) is also valued way above $1billion USD. There are also more cryptocurrency traders there as compared to forex traders and some news predicted they will soon surpass stock trading industry: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...investors-set-to-outnumber-stock-participants

so yeah, all these blockchain adoptions by banks are not going anywhere. I have done my research. Yes, crypto valuation against fiat can keep going down, but sooner or later it will go back up, because there are some cryptocurrency foundations who take this business very seriously and they are making huge progress. For now they are Ripple, Stellar, and IOTA. VeChain's influence for real-world adoption is remain to be seen. This is why I'm optimistic.

*PS: im saying "there" because currently I do not live in my home country. I'm an expat abroad

TL;DR - if you hate my wall of text, just open all the links. they all coming from different sources in case you accuse me for having bias. Read each of the link properly and make your own conclusion. these blockchain adoption stories are not fake. that's all im saying. have faith in long run. short term...i dont know...we might keep going down, but this is not over.

Good contribution. I disagree with a lot of your points.

What I see above is a lot of "testing" and "having talks with" and "teaming up with". I am still failing to see almost all of the ACTUAL implementation of real world things into the blockchain. This exact thing is why Waltonchain has been a total embarrassment in March and why Ripple fell and fell hard.

Projects that promise the moon, and then act like "having talks" and "invited to conferences" is the equivalent of a massive rollout of production-ready blockity-blockchain. It is ALL hype. And of course it is, their entire business is literally built on what people say about what they will do, and not what they actually do.

I have written and researched on so many incredible blockchain based projects, and have mentioned many times that blockchain is the future of data. There's things from location-based smart contracts from a network of devices that is already millions deep, to the upgrading of outdated legacy systems to blockchain on a single streamlined platform, to projects that want to redefine end to end supply chain economics.

BUT.

They are all still just ideas. It's been at least six months since crypto became the hot new thing. Where is the proof of concept? Why aren't roadmaps being met? When these "projects" are losing almost 90 percent of their value in a few months, it's a serious cause for concern. Especially since their viability is backed by the fact that their coin HAS to be used in almost all cases. It's a funding vehicle.

Imagine if you believed in Ripple and put $100,000 into the coin on January 4th. Do you know where you would be today? You'd have $15,789 right now. It's a given that these coins and projects will ebb and flow. But losing over 80% of its value in less than three months, and then talking about incredible new technology that is still five quarters from implementation... can you see why this is a cause for concern?

Why bind a particular crypto value to the blockchain tech eventual future implementations and act if it's one and the same, I don't get it?
It's like trying to bind the future price of a building in construction with the fact that concrete or steel will be used for the building structure...
It's almost entirely non-relevant.

Well, to me it does look like there is some form of manipulation going on but IMO it is by the whales. The whales are trying to hold out until next halving in 2020 then the real dumping will begin.

These 3 articles would make me concerned if I was holding significant amounts of BTC

Not trying to worry people unnecessarily, just interested in opinions.
So u fucking post all ur BS here and than u just say Not trying to worry people? fuck off , newbie people will panic sell their BTC bcz of ur fucking post.

Just dropped below $7k. Strange how so many experts here could be so wrong.... Let me guess - there is a predicted bounce coming :p

Who knew that cryptos were so weak that some negative posts on BHW or other forums could cause btc to collapse in price? Yeah that sounds like something to 'invest' your life savings in.
