End of road for PP??
I wouldn't worry about PayPal much. This pandemic came to the rescue of e-commerce, not that it was dying before that. Actually PayPal is growing beyond expectations. $1 trillion payment volume, 55M new users, 20% revenue climb is projected for 2021. In the first 3 months of the year they added 14.5M new users, revenue went up by 29%, the total payment volume increased by 50%. Mind blown.Might be a start honestly. Now smaller marketplaces should follow the trend and realize that they'll have better margins if they cut PP out. Grailed, etsy, gumroad, stockx etc. these are all huge companies who rely heavily on PP.
Although I do know in the US it's hard to cut out PP. When I ran my ecom stores back in the day, I would increase CVR by 0.5-1% just by adding PayPal. That tells you something...
Just started using Paypal or what? It has always been like this with Paypal in India. You don't have a paypal balance in India as paypal auto withdraws the money to your bank account. This is because a company needs a banking license in India to hold someone's funds and they were not willing to get involved in the bureaucracy to get a banking license and other miles long paper trail that comes with it, so they chose the easy way out.
Paypal even stopped it's payment solutions within India as it didn't make sense for someone to use them when there are better payment solutions within India.

What does this mean for how they handle chargebacks? They have been doing this for a while.
Buyers can still pay with PayPal if they wish. It gets processed by another company then you get paid into your bank a couple of days later.
