I'm glad you brought this up @MisterF . I've been getting really annoyed seeing members who joined a week ago with 70+ posts, all of which are a few words.
The other classic is asking for samples or reviews in pretty much every sales thread. The cleverer ones post only in longer threads where an inane comment is less likely to be noticed.
My guess is that someone is trying to build up a number of alter-egos who can leave positive reviews on a sales thread. Its not just about Jr VIP access.
In my opinion, introductions should not boost post count. Maybe also asking for samples shouldn't as well (although how you would do this I don't know).

So what? Do we need to welcome new members?If introduction posts not counts? then nobody visit that page. only newbie comes and post Hi, i am new here.blah blah blah. Moderators welcome them. and few kind hearted person like ME. Then that section will becomes abandoned.
Most new members just say "Hi. I'm a new member." and nothing of any value or interest.
This is an internet forum, not an AA meeting.

Of course I welcome a new employee because I want him or her to contribute.
But this is an IM forum, where people are largely anonymous. You don't need to stroke egos to get someone to contribute.
And most people post on the welcome forum just to boost post count - new members and established ones.
Weather better improve I'm back out there for 3 weeks end of this month.
I'm English, but live in Spain, so used to the 40 degrees+ summers here.
Been out in Dubai in July & August too, so it's warm there also, but I avoid Ramadan.
As we are sun seekers, we have been out in Egypt, Las Vegas in summer / August too.
I'm getting too old for cold and rain

Yeah, but it's much easier to spot spammers in those other sections.
Many of the specialised subforums here require you to know at least a bit about the topic if you want to post in bulk. If you're just some broke dude who fails at spamming, chances are people are going to catch on to your post count inflation attempt and report you.
On the other hand, people tend not to notice the intro section spammers because most of the people who frequent that section are new members. This is part of the reason why we have a problem with Greengolegends getting as far as they have.
