Is it possible to make the Introductions section not count towards increasing peoples post counts ?

Yes it's nice to make new members feel welcome, but I see members who themselves have only been a member for 3 months with a post count of 700 and when you dig, 99% of their posts are in the Introductions section.

This thread is 13 months old and people are boosting their post counts simply by saying " Hi welcome to the forum "

You have your point, but then again if they make it not count, people will not post in introduction section anymore, they will not welcome new members.

I've wondered if removing the post count from this section would be a good solution to the spam. Before the upgrade, posts in the Introductions section didn't increase post counts - this can be seen from this thread about post counts that hasn't been updated yet. I think this was changed so that new members could get a first post on BHW more easily.

While I think retroactively removing the post counts increases from Introductions on all accounts would do a lot to stop the section from getting spammed, I'm concerned that the drastic change in post counts could also cause issues.

Literally, that section is the spam place, well, coming from the fact that this is SEO forum and not dating/meeting/adult platform.
Therefore, saying HI and greeting people is already irrelevant content for the website. However, we cannot say that it's bad or smth, after all it's nice gesture for the newbies to be more motivated and feel that the community is active and they are welcome.

Bottom line - Introduction section postings should not be added to overall post count.

You actually contribute zilch. These are all single word posts of 2 or 3 letters. A total waste of time.

You may have a solution like new members can post in the introductions sections up to 50 posts after that posting in that section would not increase post count. by this you may tackle both problems, spamming and let new members get with forum easily.

Good point. This 2-3 letter posts are so freaking annoying as well. They're literally more spammy than welcoming a member, imho.

There should be some character limit on the posts. After all this is SEO intellectual forum and each post should be contributing to the community somehow or including the relevant information

There are a number of sub-forums that need reforming. I'd say that Introductions is one of them. I personally think removing the post count would be a good solution, but there might be another way to resolve it as well. It's definitely worth looking in to.

If there's a possibility of simply reducing the post count instead of removing it all together, it might also help reduce the spamming, whilst allowing new members to get a few posts added to their count.

You could make it so only the first post made in the Introductions section counts. So there's incentive to post there, but spamming won't have any effect on post count thereafter.
 
I saw several other forums implementing this idea. I know this worked well on Digital Point before, but I must say I haven't visited that section for a long time. Members of that forum have been posting regularly in the Introductions section even though they knew they will not be able to increase post count.

I am sure that some of the members who have done that had not realized that fact but I do not see why this would not work here, as well.

It's to stop fuckwits jumping into Jr.VIP by offering nothing except 100 posts saying ' Hi '

If you have been a member of the forum for at least 60 days, and have made at least 100 posts,

Edit - I'd rather see criteria for Jr VIP be extended to 1 year too, not just 60 days.
