1. Check you competitor website
2. Create list of keywords they have ranked
3. Create better articles based on that keyword

I usually check news items related to my niche, i.e. search G news. You can also browse some youtube videos, browse reddit or check out the topic in stumbleupon. Usually I find something I haven't written about yet and I will have an idea of how to approach it.
