Nice well done...i have listed 25 items and sold 7 so not bad, but need to upscale once my limits are raised and then open a store. How do you cope with price fluctuations on Amazon do you use software?

Hey David,

Yea that's true about the store. Once it makes sense it's the first thing you need to do. The 10% final fee is such a bitch.

Do you plan on making a return to the tax man when you starting kicking it!? Because if so you need to keep track of all PayPal and eBay fees paid. You can use these to reduce your tax bill, giving you a bit of extra profit :)

Of course i keep records of all my outgoings as well as income, i am self employed doing other work anyway so its no problem. I would advise anyone not to try and avoid the tax man, its not worth it. Good luck with your venture.
 
Glad some of you are banking!

What's the best way to refund customers, especially when the drop ship item increases in price? I don't want to get any negs to my account! What do you mention to them?

Whats the problem if the item increases in price?

I'm pretty sure that Amazon will refund you as per your transaction price.

In any case, you just get the buyer to send the item to you, you then file for a return with Amazon. Or else you could get the buyer to send directly to Amazon but I guess that is a little bit risky.

If there is a product you will need to get the buyer to send directly to Amazon or you will have to pay the buyer to ship to you first.. because you should be paying for the shipping when there is a product fault..

I mean when the eBay customer orders it (paid), and I haven't shipped it off yet.
 
Yeah, I'm gonna use my own price monitoring system asap. And then readjust the price when it needs changing.

I cannot afford to buy the item and ship it (at a loss), as the increase has gone through the roof!

Oh well, ye live and learn!

I started this method like a month and a half ago and I've made about 20 sales, which is decent. However the thing that pisses me off is PayPal holding my funds, I obviously have money in my bank but sometimes I run out since I use it a lot and don't have much of if since I'm still at school and don't work. Also some of my listings get hundreds of views and loads of watchers but no one buys the item which is weird. Also I list a product which is significantly cheaper than rivaling listings yet I still don't get sales and they do...???

dude, be thankful of the holds. Before they instituted it, the biggest scam on eBay was new accounts listing stuff and not shipping after getting paid. The hold is a moderate annoyance. The other option is to make you verify your identity and make you turn in invoices for what you're selling when you register before you can list anything, which would have been a lot worse for the sellers.

In many cases for popular items, the views will mostly come from other sellers keeping track of the competition and bots.

Placement in searches is at least as important as price. As a new account you're probably getting terrible placement.

You'r question is a little ambiguous as the NET margin is different for everybody, depending on how they have eBay setup and what volume they are rocking on PayPal.

Euphorix has stated before that he makes anywhere from $4.50 to $7.0 per sale. While percentages are great and all that a set fee like Euphorix has mentioned can be cool if it's linked to volume.

I can't link here but PM me and i'll send you a snippet from my business model Excel workbook for a simple sale calculator that shows gross/net margins etc..

% profit margin is HUGELY important in the long run. If you make $5 on a $10 item, you can make mistakes, run into crazy customers, etc. and still survive. If you make $5 on a $1000 item, one scammer/ crazy customer/ competitor messing with you can pretty much destroy you.

It's also a function of at what price range you want to operate in. You get totally different clientele when you're selling $20 items vs when you're selling $500 items.
