Hi, totally new to this site...actually totally new to the concepts here.
I'm pretty much on 'page one' where it comes to promoting my site. christianbed I was wondering if some of you interwebnet experts might be willing to help a noob like me? I am a bit overwhelmed, and just looking for something like a 'Top 10 things every noob needs to know about promoting an online business'. About all I've figured out this far is to set up some social media (twitter, blog) and write a couple articles, post a link on Digg, etc. Now I'm stuck. Anyway, thanks in advance for your help everyone!

    define "help"
No one will feed you with a spoon.
Start reading BHW 4 hours a day. That will help you getting started.

Ouch, Grizzly! I'm actually an MBA/PhD, so perhaps McDonalds is too good for me. ;-) I'm looking for someone who might be willing to help, and who doesn't need to put other people down who are interested in learning something...this is generally how learning is transmitted. One would think that while self-directed study is always necessary, that the wise person knows better than to dive into an entirely new field without asking more experienced people for help.

By 'help' I meant what I said in my original post:
just looking for something like a 'Top 10 things every noob needs to know about promoting an online business'. Not asking to be spoon-fed or for a life-coach, I thought someone here might have put something like this together...or a checklist of some type, etc.

oh well, not commenting on that

anyways, lucky that you're on a forum like this, at least people will give decent suggestions...

so, i'd advice you to start reading...remember IM is not like your "MBA" where you have a systematic teaching methodology...

so here you first have to adapt to reading online forums on your own...your first "fail" happened when you're asking for "help" aka "spoon-fed"...now don't flame at me saying you weren't, but it indeed sounded like that...

your question is just way too broad for anyone to answer in a nutshell...so this shows that you have very little understanding on this whole...so I'd suggest you to spend some time on this forum, go through some methods, and come back later with any specific questions...

P.S. you can check out some of my threads and methods I shared here which might help you to get the ball rolling...

You have to decide the thing in which you feel good. Like I feel good in Selling backlinks. Some feel good in adsense, some feel good in selling sites etc CPA, clickbank are thing which people like here mainly.

Haha, some of you guys are mad harsh - although they are right :p

Well first of all welcome to the forum christian; if you put your mind to it you could be making money soon enough. However you're going to fail more times than you succeed, its your job to ignore the failures and to keep digging till you hit the jackpot. In my opinion IM is best done in non-pressure situations where the moneys NOT needed, (when your starting off) that way if you are not lazy you are free to experiment with various methods and put them into play with your own twists.

My advice to you is thoroughly read the forum, i know its vague - and at first overwhelming and difficult to grasp. Just do it. Trust me. Start reading threads, popular ones, new ones, start posting, you'll start learning. You'll start forming connections.

    * Start learning about SEO tools (Like Senuke, & Scrapebox)
    * As I mentioned read the forum like a bible
    * Understand the different ways you can make money in the respective different sects (i.e. CPA/Article writing/Adsense/Mobile Marketing)..whatever it may be.
    * Soon you'll have enough knowledge to deploy a method and start creating money with your own twist.

However remember once you've got enough knowledge don't STAY on the forum constantly sitting around - once you've picked up a method, learn a method, thought of a method, with a good enough twist - DO IT. As you'll soon come to find out on this forum most people will bang on about how people don't take action, so don't be one of those people.

    Good luck.

Assuming you have gone through the process of choosing a niche you are able to write good content for, done adequate keyword research and have set about purchasing your domain name and web hosting for your website. Here are:-

Jack Sparrow's Top Ten Tips For Promoting A Website.

    1. Advertising Funds - You will need some capital to help purchase SEO tools or services to help with backlinking, i have made top ten using only $30 to $50 in advertising funds. You can do it all for FREE but the time and effort in doing so can be really demoralizing for newbies, especially with the very slow results that can occur.

    2. Ways To Build Backlinks - This can be done several ways via Directory Submission, Article Marketing, Xrumer Blasts, Scrapebox blasts, Social Bookmarking, Web 2.0 Linkwheels, RSS Directories or Video Marketing etc.

    3. SEO Tools And Services - Look here on BHW or Fiverr and familiarize yourself with the various SEO tools and services available to help with future backlinking. Names to look out for Xrumer, Scrapebox, Article Marketing Robot to name but a few.

    4. Concentrate On One Keyword - Start off by choosing one low competition keyword and concentrate on building backlinks using that keyword as anchor text in your links, article links or blog comments. Concentrating on one keyword at a time before moving onto the next, will help you see better results with ranking and encourage you to work harder.

    5. Avoid Main Website Backlink Blasting - When your website is new i would avoid blasting your Main Website with too many backlinks, this can result in Google Sandboxing. Instead build Web 2.0 linkwheels and concentrate Xrumer And Scrapebox blasts on the individual Web 2.0 properties, this will pass on valuable link juice.

    6. Article Marketing For Backlinks - This is still my number one way of building quality backlinks, towards my Main Website and i have seen great results. After three months of backlink building towards web 2.0 properties, I will start writing 5 to 10 niche articles ready for article submission using Article Marketing Robot services on Fiverr, all with a keyword link back to my Main Website. This really helps with increasing rankings.

    7. Importance Of Pinging - Whatever you do when building backlinks, always have a text file containing the URL of every blog comment, forum profile, blog post, article page that has been created. Then once every two to four weeks use the pinging service at PingFarm, ping your complete list of URL's to help the search engine spiders crawl and discover your backlinks.

    8. Continue Adding Fresh Content - Most people tend to try and rank static pages, or don't bother adding fresh content regularly and expect to keep their rankings. Always try to add new content to your website at least once a week, either by using the Wordpress blog platform or adding a new page to your website. Make the content unique and relevant, and Google will always reward you with good rankings.

    9. Bookmarking New Content - Always try and bookmark any new content you add to your website to multiple social bookmarking website, this will help Google find and crawl your website so it will be indexed quicker. You can use free tools to help with this process like Onlywire but these have limited submissions per month unless you pay. Tools are also available such as Bookmarking Demon or Bookmark Wiz.

    10. Hard work and Perseverance - This goes without saying really, internet marketing is all about driving traffic to your Main Website and getting those visitors involves months even years of hard work and perseverance to obtain and maintain high search engine rankings.

This information is all available on BHW and there is much more, i hope my filtered down list will help you get started thinking in the right direction.

    GOOD LUCK

    Reading is def the key
Without reading you'll get no where.
I'm "wasting" 50% of my time reading new things and new options in the forum
