I see allot of people who use their name seem to be doing SEO or IM type blogs.

So I was wondering if anyone here is having success just blogging about the things they do throughout the day.

I type "personal blog" into google and really don't see much. However, I see a blogspot that has a PR5.

Also if you read some personal blogs I would love for you to share them with me.

I will be trying this myself to see if I can get results.

I'm thinking on focusing on cooking food every day few times per day and then just ad other stuff.

Yep i have a personal blog on Writing (techniques, genres, prompts etc). Pretty good traffic via Google (1k-2k a day). Have never done SEO of any sorts on it, as the earning potential is virtually zero. It's more of a passion project. Like a writing blog that tracks my fiction writing projects. More of a diary for me to read ten years later than anything else. Also allowed me to meet some pretty writers over the years.

So you are pretty much focusing on a niche "writing" so there is earning potential.

My focus will be "cooking" / "food" niche even though I'll add other stuff.

I would think that you could get a decent following if you were to really build that out... that is a very popular niche and it has a lot of room... you would need a hook I would think, something like Internet Marketing Barbeque King or something not nearly as corny.

If i start thinking earning potential, then i am sure i will start censoring myself. Filtering all the thoughts and worry about if i am getting the right kind of response to my posts. Besides writing is a ridiculously saturated market/ I am sure someone with money to spend on SEO etc could really make my blog into something profitable, i certainly don't carry such intentions.

Curious why you say that BTB. As a budding cook i actively follow a lot of Youtube cooking channels and websites too and it seems to me that even the ones with great content don't really have that great followings. Not to mention the fact that if you search for a recipe you have the foodnetworks.com and allrecipes.com hogging the top 10. Would be a uphill task.. no?

I see some income reports from cooking blogs $20,000+ per month and they aren't any of the big name blogs.

It is a competitive niche but there are sub-niches that I am sure that do well. I think you work around the big boys and offer a twist that they are not offering and work that angle. There is a lot of money in that niche if you find an angle.

Think about some of the TV shows about cooking/eating; for the most part they do not compete as they all have a different twist and many are very popular. Man Vs Food does well as does Chef Ramsey and both are different sub-niches inside the one niche. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is popular as well as Rachel Ray... there are just a zillion profitable ways to go with that niche.

I'm pretty shocked no one is doing this.

I know there is allot of people doing this in the SEO niche, but it is way to over saturated and they all seem to talk about the same stuff all at once.

I've been trying to start a few times but never got to actually doing it properly. Mainly due to privacy concerns about personal blogging etc. Wasn't sure how to go about that as I have found it hard to be genuine while staying private about your life. I believe being genuine with your blog is the key to its long term success.

Personal blogs lack focus, this is why you generally dont find them on Google.
Google simply has no idea how to categorize them.

I believe there are plenty of popular ones, you just need to know how to find them.

Most SEO blogs are complete shite in my opinion. The same old rehashed stuff from people telling you how to make money online by...Creating a blog about making money online.
I even subscribed to one that had an SEO/life lessons type content back in the day...The older members will remember it as Dosh Dosh but even that guy eventually disappeared and his posts were (very long) a bit of a change from the norm.
I guess it's hard posting fresh content.

In regards to this I would like to note that this isn't the case for all personal blogs.

The way I was looking at it was to start a personal blog in a specific mind frame like personal growth and keep that as the main subject of the blog.

A personal growth blog can bring in traffic from all directions and will definitely do well on Google depending on how you target it.

I have a personal blog targeted for people around my home town. I got a small community going on, not optimized for any monetization but I have fun building it.

Green: My Internet marketing blog is centred around the things I do each day. :D

Red: Actually, I don't think as many people here have a blog that focuses on the topic of Internet marketing. I did a keyword research giveaway a couple of months ago and everyone here seems to be working in different niches. While I am one of those people who has an Internet marketing blog, the whole purpose of my blog is to provide newbie-friendly and easy to consume information where each IM-term is defined and used in its unabbreviated form the first time I use it in each article (since newbies feel inundated by all of these acronyms and abbreviations that many people use on here), as well as to teach my clients about what it is I do to their websites (when they have a question, I can just send them a link to my own articles).

Cyan: I had a personal blog at one point but I stopped working on it since I just don't care enough to talk about myself. I've recently registered a domain name for a new personal blog fairly recently and I have framework set up, although I still can't decide on what topic of my life I want to cover. Maybe it'll be something about having autism and how to properly fake interactions with people.

You don't have to "talk about yourself" just give your point of view like pretty much every website on the net.

Man I used to blog just for fun. I really liked it too. I think what screwed me up is that I got obsessed with trying to make money with it. Then it became a third job. All jobs suck, and the third job is just beyond.

I really would like to get back into it...

Do you ever find yourself optimising articles even when you write something for yourself? That's happened to me a few times already.
Well, what I meant was I don't always like to discuss anything about myself (my life, my points of view, my items, etcetera). While my new personal blog would be about my perspective, I probably won't update it as often as I update my business blog (once every 2 or 3 days).
