Amazon affiliate journey - Goal = £20 / day

First good luck with your Amazon Journey. I'm developing couple of Amazon sites too. my conversion rate is around 6%. In my experience, creating a reason for visitor to visit the Amazon link is important and also using affi links in right places. But since your problem is conversions I wonder if something wrong with your traffic. in my sites they don't buy the product but most of the time they buy something else at least.

I'm about to take my first steps with Amazon. Just finalising my Keyword ideas.

As far as click through rates goes, is your issue that a low % of people are going from your website to Amazon? How many links have you got on each article (roughly) and where are they situated? Might be a simple matter of catching the visitors eye a little better? As far as having TOO MANY links goes, I'm not certain that would be an issue? Someone with more experience would have to cover that!

Thanks man. 6% sounds good i'd be happy with that.
Hmm a lot of my keywords are focused around getting the best cheap deals. I'd assume that because of this people are naturally reluctant to buy (they've got short arms and deep pockets) but still 1% buy rate doesn't seem right with the trust factor from Amazon and for the other reasons I explaned.

Nice, good luck mate. Nah, my issue isn't getting people to click through to amazon but the lack of people buying products while they're there. And I can remember reading somewhere about Google not liking too many affiliate links.

About conversion rate: It's usually depending on where your traffic is coming from (appart from the obvious like buyer keyword etc...). Organic traffic usually converts really well, while trafic from FB/twitter etc. converts rather shitty, since people are usually not in a "buying mood" but rather just browse around.

Update

- Added another article yesterday. I think i've found out why the conversion rate was low. The 'recommended' products I placed in the side widgets and reviewed are good products and have overall really good reviews, but they each have one really negative review on page 1. This wasn't anything really bad or groundbreaking but I guess people are easily put off, especially those who are looking for cheap deals and don't spend their money easily.

So I scouted for products that are still great but have all good page 1 reviews and placed them in the side widgets instead. Let's see if that helps.

- I added '2015' into one of my URL's a while back, which obviously isn't a good idea. So I changed the URL and indexed the new page straight away by submitting it to Google on search console. I might see a little bit of a drop in traffic for a bit while it crawls back up in the SERP.

- Bing ads end in a few days so my site will be 100% natty.

Shit to do
- Write more articles
- Figure out what backlinking strategy to use and slowly feed some onto my inner pages

I analysed my main competitors backlinks and they are WHACK. They are authoritive websites but have few backlinks and the little that they have are either irrelevant or come from low trust websites. So that's good.

Maybe your competitors has old and established web sites. Unless those are make for Amazon type sites I found it always hard to out-rank. well just hard but not impossible. I don't think sales rate is low just before the target product have low ratings. It must be something else. Check traffic stats. Sometimes visitors could be from other countries than your target Amazon site.

Yeah they are established sites, but their content for this niche is thin and they aren't backed with strong links which makes me think I could beat them. Will see how it goes.

And good idea thanks, I had a look at the location info for taffic on Google analytics. The top 3 countries are USA, UK and russia so that all checks out fine.

UPDATE

- I re-submitted my site to amazon associates UK and US and replaced all the links. The UK account got approved quickly so my site is fine like I thought. The problem must have been having the wrong site added.

- My keywords are ranking in the 30s & 40s instead of the 20s I thought originally. They don't seem to be moving from here so i'm writing articles again and adding links.

- I've removed the affiliate links on all the product titles for all the pages. Seemed like it was overkill and google might not like it.

- Added 1 article based around black friday and cyber monday keywords to take advantage of the days as I noticed people aren't really targetting it in my niche and the buy-rate is usually high. I'd like the page to be ranking top 3 before then if possible.

- I've started backlinking. I've got one high quality backlink pointed to the homepage and i'm now going to rebuild expired web 2.0s with decent PA and point them at the inner pages. I'll add 5 niche related articles on each and add 1 - 2 links to my site per blog. (Not too sure on the timing though, any suggestions on how often I should add articles to them and when I should drop in the backlinks? Also will I need to change my IP every time I login / post links on each blog?)


- My main competitor:

• Has just one page ranking for quite a few of my keywords (though it hasn't targetted them specifically)
• Has around 40 backlinks, but most of them have 0 TF and they're on random sites with unrelated content. There's just 4 that don't which have pretty good metrics so i've gotta beat these with my links.
• The page has a trust flow under 10

So (unless the links are hidden from mjestic) it just looks like it's ranking off high DA and a few high quality backlinks alone. Will be interesting to see if I can beat it with a few web 2.0s.

Tip:

Majestic is brilliant but expensive and I think you can only buy 3 months minimum. You can buy 2 weeks use of an account on fiverr for $5 though, which is good shit.

I haven't updated in a while. My site lost a lot of momentum and pretty much came to a stand still for a bit after changing some page titles, content and descriptions around a bit too much. The keyword that was ranking at position 2 / 3 on Bing dropped to page 2 and my Google keywords went down a bit too. Unfortunately my head hasn't been in the best of places to be smashing out optimal work but i've still been making some progress.

- I've added some more articles. I found a few nice untapped keywords that allowed me to review some expensive products.

- I've built backlinks to some of my pages using mainly manually built expired Web 2.0s with relevant content, but the new pages haven't indexed yet. I also have some new web 2.0s with some low quality tier 2 links pointed at them and might add some backlinks to these after the expired are all set up.

- The Bing keyword is now back on page 1 and is nearing the top 5. As for Google, my highest volume keyword is on page 8 and my best positions are for 2 keywords on page 3. They seem to be a bit stuck but maybe that's just because of lack of content on my site. Hopefully things will really pick up when I hit 15+ articles (assuming google looks at a sites total page / word count as a ranking factor for individual pages).

- When I first started out I changed the URL of a page quite a bit. I just saw that there are 3 more pages indexed around the same content but with different URLs now giving 404 errors. Not too sure if this would have harmed my site or not, but I removed them in search console.

For some reason Amazon has been 2 days behind on the reports. Probably because of dealing with a lot of high volume this month. My click-throughs have gone up again though so that's good.

Tonight i'm gonna add an article & backlink to a blog and write an article for a UK keyword. Anyone got any advice on getting new blogs indexed or indexing new posts on old blogs quicker? Do ping tools work nowdays? thanks.
