My biggest question is: where would I face less internal competition when targeting the same audience ABO or CBO?

For example, let’s say I validated an audience and now I want to scale it. What’s the best approach? Should I launch multiple CBO campaigns with different creatives for that audience, or run multiple ABO ad sets with different creatives for the same audience?

If you’re hitting the same audience, ABO usually causes less internal fighting since each ad set has its own budget, CBO tends to pit creatives against each other faster.

CBO campaigns with different creatives. That's what I would do.

You’ll get less internal competition with one CBO per audience and multiple creatives inside it, ABO tends to bid against itself when you duplicate ad sets.

ABO has less internal competition, CBO splits budget between creatives.

Neither is perfect, but CBO usually handles internal competiton much smoother than ABO.

If you need to test three creatives, we launch three ABO 1-3-1 campaigns (duplicates of the same creative in the ad set) and one CBO 1-3-3 campaign (with different creatives in the ad set).

If you target the same audience, internal competition happens in both ABO and CBO — the difference is how Facebook handles it.
For scaling a validated audience, one CBO with multiple ad sets or creatives usually works better because the algorithm can allocate budget to the best performers and reduce self-competition.
Running multiple CBOs or many ABOs on the same audience often increases overlap and drives CPM up unless budgets are very small or for testing only.
