So are most links. If the forums have a good reputation and they are relevant to your site, I don't see how posting a link there would be harmful.

Yes, I'm using this method myself. I'm sharing it because it can't get saturated, as there are so many forums around.
I don't know how to find forums that allow edits, I simply went back to all the old forums I used and tried each one of them.

It's been a long time since I was a forum admin, but I remember there was no admin notification if someone edited an old post and added a link, at least not on the CMS I used (phpBB, vBulletin, SMF, IPB).
However, it's been a few years and I don't know if they added such a thing with updates. Or do you mean on Reddit? I've never been Reddit a mod, but for sure you can edit posts and comments even if they are months old.

It's a good idea to edit old posts and add links if the admin doesn't get a notification. Nice share mate.

Not really bad. Forum links are one of the most natural ways of getting backlinks (real people tend to link to sites in forums all the time). They’re not too powerful though. If that’s what you meant. If this takes you 5 minutes, why not. They’re way better than profile links for example. Maybe people will start aging accounts just for this method lol

If the forum is popular and relevant to your niche, the link might have a better impact.
If it's just an old abandoned forum and it's not relevant, I would recommend using the link as a tier 2.

True, but nofollow links can also be helpful. Most people have a misconception about nowollow links (and many other things regarding SEO, actually) and think they are completely useless. They aren't.

If its active thread like this one, you just wait till the new page of the thread is about to be started, post and edit your post like 5 minutes after that, while is still active options. Mods rarely check all the posts. The problem is, I always want unedited posts with links. I mean its pretty simple for Google to dismiss any links from edited comments as they are probably added later.. paranoia much? Maybe. Still I prefer to have it this way.

You're forgetting one very important thing about forums... they can bring a lot of traffic, especially if your message is in position 2-3 and the thread is popular. Not long ago, I was getting over 200 visitors a month just from 1 thread (and my niche is not that popular).

I, personally, don't mind nofollow links but I dislike reddit nofollow links. Recently did a few tests and google doesn't follow reddit nofollow links. Except reddit, I don't have a problem indexing using nofollow links.

Yes of course that’s one of the best things about forum links, but most of the old posts barely get views hence why this method works.

You are incorrect. Reddit uses "some" nofollow links.

There are ways to make your links do-follow, but since I purchased guides on here that taught me that I won't say how here.

In the posts, the links are nofollow on reddit.
I DO know how to make d0follow links on reddit but there's a tiny problem with those now.
