A simple method to get backlinks from forums or Reddit

Not sure if common sense, but I came up with this method and I thought I'd share it.
I'm sure most of you have old accounts on forums that you don't visit much anymore.
Posting links and advertising is usually not allowed on forums, but what you can do is edit your old posts.
Let say you have an account on a forum where you posted something months or years ago.
If the forum CMS allows you to, you can edit an old post and insert a backlink there. No one is ever going to notice.
I have accounts on dozens of forums, some of which I haven't visited in 5 or even 10 years, and just put my links in most of them.
So, go to your main email inbox, search for "forum", find all the forums you used through the years and go to each of them.
You can even use this method on Reddit by editing an old post or comment.
Or you can join a forum now, post something or reply to someone, and then edit the post a few months from now.
Please note that not all forums allow to edit old posts, for example, this is impossible to do on BHW (but I obviously wouldn't do it even if it was).

Not on all forums. Some CMS allow it, some don't, and I think most have an admin setting to allow it or not.

As I said, it's not possible on BHW. Just login to some forums you used back in the days and see which ones allow you to edit your old posts.

Wow forum niche edits! Very clever tbh. I would never have thought of this. Some forums don’t allow to edit old posts though.

They won't notice if it's a months or year old post, and even if they did, this method is meant to be done on old forums where you don't care if you get banned.

I've been thinking about this method but been scared to implement it.
When I modify a post and it's buried... does it mean admins don't see that I added links there?

It's been a long time since I was a forum admin, but I remember there was no admin notification if someone edited an old post and added a link, at least not on the CMS I used (phpBB, vBulletin, SMF, IPB).
However, it's been a few years and I don't know if they added such a thing with updates. Or do you mean on Reddit? I've never been Reddit a mod, but for sure you can edit posts and comments even if they are months old.

Sorry... I was talking about forums only (I see no point of having links in old reddit posts).
So on forums, there's no notification? Definitely need to try.

The great thing about this method is that people can still find those old threads through search engines but admins can't really see them.

Like he said it's not easy to notice. Moderators are mostly busy with presently active threads, no one is going back looking for your sins from the past. Unless of course the forum somehow notifies the admin og changes to skme pages.

On some forums there are no limits. While on others like BHW, there are.
