5+ Year Journey To 5 Million YouTube Subscriptions

This is a continuation of my Lounge thread.

Nothing fancy to write. I won't even add the usual journey banner. I have several aged YouTube accounts. This journey will focus on one of them. I'm familiar with how YT works as I have been visiting it almost daily since Summer or Fall of 2006, lol.

Here are my goals:

  1. 1k subs by July 2018
  2. 10k subs by July 2019
  3. 100k subs by July 2020
  4. 1m subs by July 2021
  5. 5m subs by July 2022
Realistically speaking, this doesn't seem very likely, because video gamers don't do as well as Vloggers and How to Guides. However, I have seen some very crazy stuff happening over the years. I've seen people gain 100k+ overnight just from a single video mention. Some YouTubers gained 5m in under a year using different tactics. Yeah, yeah, they invested a good deal in marketing, etc.

In the year 2014, PewDiePie had a 10m sub gain in 6 months. The way YouTube's algorithm works now, you need clickbait titles and clickbait thumbnails to rank better. Even in Let's Play videos, you don't need to add "Part 1, part 2, part 3..." Although, it does help to put it into the description.

Oops, for some reason I wrote subscriptions and not subscribers. That could be read in a different way.

My friend runs a gaming channel. It's hard work and you have to be consistent.

He specializes in obscure games so his channel doesn't have a lot of subscribers - maybe like 10,000 or so. But that's his niche and he's got a pretty active audience/fan base.

He live streams on Twitch every week and uploads at least one video to YT every week. He's been mentioned on some major gaming sites like IGN. His blog - when it was active - was a source for rumors in the industry.

He didn't pay anyone for any of this. But he works in the industry so he knows the formula.

Wish I could tell you what it was. When I asked, he just said "Give the people what they want."

Things are going smoothly. Sometimes I cuss a lot when I fail, lol. I have no problem with it, so I don't edit things out. However, YouTubers with many viewers seem to get attacked for dark humour such as rape jokes, death jokes or even racist jokes. Not that I say any of those things in my videos. It's probably better to be on the safe side. Imagine what these do-gooders would say if they heard me yelling, "Mario, you lazy Italian nigger. Stop raping the pipes!" Actually, that would be pretty funny, but it doesn't really go with the way I talk, lmao.


Rant Ahead

Ugh, YouTube comments sections are pure cancer. Viewers get so butthurt and bring in their silly opinions on why you shouldn't say or do things. All these thought police are the worst. George Orwell would have a field day! YouTubers made themselves who they are today through hard work. Due to some controversial comments, they feel obligated to make cringey "I'm sorry" videos to appease the shills. The way I see it is, if you lose subs for that then they weren't worth your time in the first place. They can fuck right off for all I care. ~

I wonder what can really be done about this or should I just ignore them and keeping doing my thing?
 
Keep doing your thing and don't worry about what they say. Also, I had to laugh so hard when you said the thing with Mario hahahahahah
 
I've stepped up my game. Now I upload 2 videos a day, fully recorded and edited. I focus on more kid friendly games in the morning and adult oriented ones at night. One day I'll master the art of clickbait thumbnails/titles. It's so satisfying knowing that someone out there watches me play games. Now I actually have an incentive to beat each game. I've encountered several YouTubers who've made several million $ in the past 7 years, just by gaming.

Can you imagine that shit? You play games and make $100 - $1k+ per video. Say you buy a game for 60-70 bucks and it takes 20 videos to beat it. Even at 100 bucks per video, you'll make 2k or more by beating that single game. Add in Patreon, CPA networks and other stuff and why even bother doing anything else?

I'll make it one day. I'm gonna buy a new PC and invest in a proper webcam + mic. Then it will be even more legit.

If you think it's unrealistic then consider this: Brittany Venti is a known Twitch streamer who always trolls the video game community and gets paid for it. I mean just read her Patreon description:

I think you need some sort of gimmick to keep people watching.
Clickbait headlines and colorful thumbnails can only get you so far.

Since it's niche specific - I won't even bother trying to keep the casuals interested. There are a few interesting things planned. I can talk a lot about video games and how they correlate with each other and tie in with my childhood. With over 22 years of video game experience, there's much to be said and done.

Now that's a thought. Don't worry too much about YT. I find that it's the male gamers who make the real money on teh tube. Look at Markiplier and jacksepticeye. Which female gamer can compete with them in terms of income? Well, SSSniperWolf and iHasCupquake might one day get there.
 
Good luck. You could definitely reach 1,000 subscribers a lot faster than that.
