This is the beginning of a journey post in which I will take 2 websites from $0/day to $200/day+.
I have been trapped in one place during this quarantine and will probably remain here for another couple of months (min). I'm not a fan, which is what is pushing me to begin this journey. I hate remaining in one place, so I will use this time to ensure that it never happens again.
I'm going to try to get to $200 per day in passive income by next year (hopefully sooner & hopefully more). This was primarily inspired by @Kikerinka and @Shaunm.
The reason I'm targeting this number is because I believe I can end up traveling comfortably from this.

I'm a student, and I have the next couple of months where I can fully dedicate my time to my company. I'm going to make the best of it.
I've been running a fairly successful digital agency that builds WordPress websites for around four years now. In that time I've made good money, but I've also come to realize that I HATE working for others. Yes, owning your own company brings you freedom, but it also ties you to your clients.
It's not at the point where I can’t simply walk away, and it would run itself (I'd need many more employees). As a founder, I hold the whole thing together, meaning that using it for passive income probably wouldn't work.
For the past couple of months I've been considering how I can develop a consistent, passive income stream by doing a ton of grunt work for the next year. Obviously, the best choice is real estate, but I don't want to get into real estate until I have a decent chunk of capital.
So I think the next best thing are digital assets, such as affiliate websites, traffic websites that generate ad revenue, and digital projects that don't require me personally to sell them.
This journey is going to be specifically for websites that passively generate income. In the future, you may see other journeys from me developing other digital projects. My mentality is snowballing my capital, meaning that whatever money these websites generate will be reinvested back into them or other projects until I'm ready to go ahead and travel for a couple years.
What I’ve Got:
I'm going to be focusing on 2 specific domains.
Domain 1: DR, Mid 30s, Niche Web Design
This specific niche is actually much more targeted, but it falls within that larger umbrella. This is my main asset currently. It gets decent traffic (200+ per day), and makes a couple $100 per month on Affiliate commissions.
This niche is extremely hard to rank in because it's very competitive, but at the same time affiliate commissions are very high, and you can write content that targets those who are just about to buy the product. I currently use longtail keyword successfully to grow traffic. As soon as my DA becomes competitive, I will begin targeting higher volume keywords.
If I'm focusing specifically on WordPress users, I eventually can go ahead and create some plugins that should generate me some more revenue. We will see – Passive is key.
The monetization strategy is as follows:
Continue to pump content onto the website and get out of the sandbox. Once I break 1000 visitors per day, monetize it with ads. It's currently already monetized with affiliate links, and I will continue to do this.
I'm also going to try to start doing guest posts for this website (or hire it out to high quality providers).
As soon as it starts generating substantial and consistent revenue, I'm going to continue to snowball all the profit back into the website in the form of niche edits and guest posts.
If I put my mind to it I can consistently pump out 5000 words of content per day (Though if we average it down, it's only about 1000 per day). For the past month, I've been constantly publishing articles, and the blog is almost at 150,000 words. Content is indexed rapidly, and I believe Google likes the website.
Domain 2: DR, Mid 10s, Niche Finance
This website is going to be split across two different content types. The first type is informational articles targeting a specific investor group. The second type of content is stock analysis articles.
I believe that I can drive a ton of traffic from stock analysis articles and already have some Contacts who can provide me with decent content. The reason I think this is because I built a blog through my agency for another guy who did stock analysis, and he was getting tons of traffic.
The domain is currently not connected to any website, but it ranks in the mid 10s because it has ties back to my financial days. A couple high ranking financial websites linked to it giving it some authority already.
For this site, I believe I'm going to outsource most of the content generation As well as the link building. I don't have a specific budget, but I will probably end up throwing around $2000 into it to give it a kickstart.
I'm going to focus on high quality links, as well as decent quality content. I might also end up going for some forum links to build the backlink profile.
If this thing becomes successful, it can be monetized through many different methods. Ads pay super high rates per click, courses can be sold for thousands of dollars, ebooks can be sold for $50 and affiliate programs have really high commissions. Unfortunately, this is another extremely hard niche to enter. Even though I have an aged domain that has some backlinks, this is going to be a risky endeavor.
With this forum entry, I'm going to try to post every couple of weeks detailing my progress in terms of visitor growth, word count, and major investments into the site. I also hope to help others learn from my mistakes and successes.
I don't have a ton of knowledge when it comes to SEO - I'm always looking to learn more. If any of the pros from this forum have suggestions for me on how best to proceed on both of the assets, please tell me.
Also: It’s not insulting to get feedback even if negative (especially if it will help me earn).
