This is the beginning of a journey post in which I will take 2 websites from $0/day to $200/day+.

I have been trapped in one place during this quarantine and will probably remain here for another couple of months (min). I'm not a fan, which is what is pushing me to begin this journey. I hate remaining in one place, so I will use this time to ensure that it never happens again.

I'm going to try to get to $200 per day in passive income by next year (hopefully sooner & hopefully more). This was primarily inspired by @Kikerinka and @Shaunm.

The reason I'm targeting this number is because I believe I can end up traveling comfortably from this.

MY BG:

I'm a student, and I have the next couple of months where I can fully dedicate my time to my company. I'm going to make the best of it.

I've been running a fairly successful digital agency that builds WordPress websites for around four years now. In that time I've made good money, but I've also come to realize that I HATE working for others. Yes, owning your own company brings you freedom, but it also ties you to your clients.

It's not at the point where I can’t simply walk away, and it would run itself (I'd need many more employees). As a founder, I hold the whole thing together, meaning that using it for passive income probably wouldn't work.

For the past couple of months I've been considering how I can develop a consistent, passive income stream by doing a ton of grunt work for the next year. Obviously, the best choice is real estate, but I don't want to get into real estate until I have a decent chunk of capital.

So I think the next best thing are digital assets, such as affiliate websites, traffic websites that generate ad revenue, and digital projects that don't require me personally to sell them.

This journey is going to be specifically for websites that passively generate income. In the future, you may see other journeys from me developing other digital projects. My mentality is snowballing my capital, meaning that whatever money these websites generate will be reinvested back into them or other projects until I'm ready to go ahead and travel for a couple years.

What I’ve Got:

I'm going to be focusing on 2 specific domains.

Domain 1: DR, Mid 30s, Niche Web Design

This specific niche is actually much more targeted, but it falls within that larger umbrella. This is my main asset currently. It gets decent traffic (200+ per day), and makes a couple $100 per month on Affiliate commissions.

This niche is extremely hard to rank in because it's very competitive, but at the same time affiliate commissions are very high, and you can write content that targets those who are just about to buy the product. I currently use longtail keyword successfully to grow traffic. As soon as my DA becomes competitive, I will begin targeting higher volume keywords.

If I'm focusing specifically on WordPress users, I eventually can go ahead and create some plugins that should generate me some more revenue. We will see – Passive is key.

The monetization strategy is as follows:

Continue to pump content onto the website and get out of the sandbox. Once I break 1000 visitors per day, monetize it with ads. It's currently already monetized with affiliate links, and I will continue to do this.

I'm also going to try to start doing guest posts for this website (or hire it out to high quality providers).

As soon as it starts generating substantial and consistent revenue, I'm going to continue to snowball all the profit back into the website in the form of niche edits and guest posts.

If I put my mind to it I can consistently pump out 5000 words of content per day (Though if we average it down, it's only about 1000 per day). For the past month, I've been constantly publishing articles, and the blog is almost at 150,000 words. Content is indexed rapidly, and I believe Google likes the website.

Domain 2: DR, Mid 10s, Niche Finance

This website is going to be split across two different content types. The first type is informational articles targeting a specific investor group. The second type of content is stock analysis articles.

I believe that I can drive a ton of traffic from stock analysis articles and already have some Contacts who can provide me with decent content. The reason I think this is because I built a blog through my agency for another guy who did stock analysis, and he was getting tons of traffic.

The domain is currently not connected to any website, but it ranks in the mid 10s because it has ties back to my financial days. A couple high ranking financial websites linked to it giving it some authority already.

For this site, I believe I'm going to outsource most of the content generation As well as the link building. I don't have a specific budget, but I will probably end up throwing around $2000 into it to give it a kickstart.

I'm going to focus on high quality links, as well as decent quality content. I might also end up going for some forum links to build the backlink profile.

If this thing becomes successful, it can be monetized through many different methods. Ads pay super high rates per click, courses can be sold for thousands of dollars, ebooks can be sold for $50 and affiliate programs have really high commissions. Unfortunately, this is another extremely hard niche to enter. Even though I have an aged domain that has some backlinks, this is going to be a risky endeavor.

With this forum entry, I'm going to try to post every couple of weeks detailing my progress in terms of visitor growth, word count, and major investments into the site. I also hope to help others learn from my mistakes and successes.

I don't have a ton of knowledge when it comes to SEO - I'm always looking to learn more. If any of the pros from this forum have suggestions for me on how best to proceed on both of the assets, please tell me.

Also: It’s not insulting to get feedback even if negative (especially if it will help me earn).

I’ll re to any comments when I can.

Sounds like know what you are doing;) You can make it, I'm sure

I'm seeing kinda tendency, that nowadays, service-based business owners are sick of the agency model, and are trying to shift to a more faceless and passive one.

Glad that my journey inspired you. :) Judging by your initial post, you have a solid plan, you are a great writer, and you have time to make things happen. I see no reason why this should not eventually work out for you.

GL and I'll follow this journey.

I figure that I'll do a major weekend update to track my progress.
Best visitor count: 600ish
Average $ per day: $24 from affiliate and ebook sales.

Was approached with somebody wanting to do a guest post. Never happened before, so I tossed them a number around $55. Never heard back.

This month has been crazy from a content creation standpoint:

Much of the content was created this week.

I was on another analytics platform, so I truly have no data to work with or compare to. Just moved to GA right after posting the initial post last week.

Recently published a timely article that was instantly indexed on #1 in Google. Threw a bunch of traffic my way yesterday and today.

Who knows, maybe it'll stay up there? (definitely not)

Regarding site 2 (mentioned in the first post). I am now just going to consistently focus on site one until I have 1000 PVs per day. Site 2 has some content on it, which I'll just let sit. When I come back to it in a couple of months, who knows what the site will be like.

What's Planned For Next Week.
Two $$ plans:

Ebook - I have several on Amazon. I'll make another this week, post it all as blog posts, package it up, and publish it on Amazon. Inspired by Kikerinka doing the same thing this week.
New sub niche funneling visitors to paid items -- My devs will create them, I'll do maybe 20k-30k words of content to build targeted traffic and funnel them to the items. Sold for maybe $15 a peice but that's a bit down the road.

Will probably focus more on the Ebook.

One outreach plan:
Paid guest posting on a magazine will net me a 70-90da backlink this week. Grabbed one last week via HARO and will try for another this week.
I'll continue looking for more opps like this, as it'll save me from having to spend vast amounts of money to acquire them. Worth the time investment, in my opinion.
I have a lot of content on the site, and will continue to create more, so really good links are what are important to me right now.

If you have any questions or suggestions, reach out!

The past week was very interesting as many keywords moved from low positions to the front page. These keywords are pretty new. As a result, traffic was very odd. I also had multiple articles on multiple days go viral, leading to days where there were over 1000 unique visitors, and other days where there were only 200. Luckily, it looks like the overall trend of my traffic is going up.

Search Engine Console is wild.

Viral traffic is good, but I'm looking for sustainable search traffic.

I was able to pick up three additional 70+ DR backlinks by using HARO. My guest post which was supposed to go through last week got held up, and will need some more attention. I'm going to remain focused on that as it's a great opportunity.

Unfortunately, I have not been Incredibly vigilant when it comes to creating content for the ebook. This is something that I need to dedicate a lot of time to. at the same time, I have two other books that are published which are selling well and driving leads to my main company. I just need to buckle down and write this dang book. I only did 5k words towards it last week.

I'm currently considering multiple routes when it comes to investing into the site. I have a chunk of change, and I'd like to make it work for me (though stocks are doing incredibly well). here are three ideas that I have:

Invest in one to two incredibly high quality expired domains and 301 redirect them to relevant articles. I've been doing competitive research this week, and found a website that did exactly that. Their DR went from almost nothing to 70+. The site now charges companies for the staff to write a review on their product.

Put a lot of money into content creation, which would double or triple the output that I'm capable of. I can typically handle around 6000 words per day myself, and being a writer makes it difficult to justify that expense.

Put some money towards high quality outreach SEO. This is probably something that I will end up doing pretty soon.

The thing that spurred this journey was being freed from working with clients. I just received an email requesting revisions on a site while writing this update. this is perhaps the 20th time they've asked me to change the colors of the links.

If that's not motivation, I don't know what is.

Goals this week:
Haro Links
Guest post
Figure out where to put money
Run some competitor research
Work On the ebook

The past week was another crazy one, as we had a ton of viral traffic, as well as growth in the organic traffic as well.
1595899772045.png
I'm not super sure why, but my organic search clicks always fall when a post goes viral on Facebook or Reddit. As soon as that wears off, the organic search traffic spikes. This is what makes my search console looks so crazy. On the topic of the search console, my CTR is only 3.5%ish. No bueno.

Just around 20,000 words were published to the site this week. organic keywords are spiking like crazy, but rarely breaking top 10 for high volume search terms. I'm almost out of a keyword list that I generated using an Ahrefs trial, So I'm using a new method that was introduced to me on blackhatworld (found here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/method-how-to-find-unlimited-low-competition-affiliate-keywords-for-free.1232461/).

To focus on increasing the rankings (which will subsequently increase the CTR) I'm looking to begin focusing a lot of effort on link building.

I continued working on the book, and am almost 3/4 of the way through it. This is taking awhile because most of the content is brand new. I'm going to post most of it as blog posts in the future, while also wrapping it up into a pretty package and selling it as an Amazon ebook. I have more than a few Amazon e-books running now, and recently began “Advertising” one of the relevant books on my site.

The single ebook on the website makes about $20.00 per day . Unfortunately, with Amazon, you can't directly track where the traffic is coming from (though I'm getting paid through Amazon affiliate, and then again through the ebook sales so I have a good idea of the statistics).

These books are the only advertisements that can be found on the site, as I'm waiting to get 1000 visits per day before applying or even thinking about any ad programs.

Of course, It looks like Medavine is the gold standard when it comes to advertisement programs, so 50,000 visits per month is the real target here.

I got three additional high quality backlinks from the HARO endeavors, and I will continue to devote more time into this. I personally write all of these myself. all of the responses need to be genuine and unique, so I can't cycle through.

Unfortunately, the majority of these submissions don't get published, so there's a lot of content going to waste here. I'm going to try to figure out a way to take these snippets which are usually around 300 words and monetize them. I think that this is too short for a blog post, so I might save up all the snippets on general topics and publish them as longform “Q&A”, maybe?

This week we're actually going to lock down a paid link building service, finish up the ebook, and continue pushing out quality content.

Love the update. Great work! I am counting the days until I have the traffic to apply to mediavine as well. Hopefully you should be there within the next few months.
