2 nav bars

I feel like maybe google has a hard time ranking my articles.

Why? Because I have 2 ways to navigate. 1 in a collapsable nav bar on the top, and 2 in my side bar i have a list of my categories. So I think the internal link kinda get duplicated.

My thinking is that, google looks at all these internal links and gets confused, doesnt know what type of content I have or where the article belongs in the search engine. because the links on the page are suppose to tell what the page is about?

I think it's more about the content and onpage seo that matter more than nav bars.

There are websites that have links in nav bars, menu bars and footer menus, so I wouldn't stress much about it.

Yea, I think your probably right. All google can see is markup. I looked and all the nav bars are grouped in the HTML markup. Im thinking google probably uses the links closest to the actual content or p tags.

If they have the same hierarchy then not an issue. Focus upon content and other onpage aspects to improve indexing.

No, I have seen multiple sites with more navs on them and they are all indexed and ranking on top for their keywords.

Its more a content/SEO thing in your case.

I wouldn't attribute that to your page's layout. Check the quality of the content you're offering. There might be a bigger issue in there that has caused your problem.
