For years I have assumed the definition of 'indexed' was if I could find the page in Google.....
I've been running my backlinks through several index checkers and they're saying that my links are not indexed (despite them showing up in google).
What definition of 'indexed' are they using?

We have a popular .co.uk ecommerce store.
We also have a .eu domain and a .de domain.
The .eu is a straight copy of the .co.uk - word for word
The .de is a direct translation of .co.uk - word for word

Quite often when doing backlink research on competitors I view the page that their link is reported to be on there is no sign of the anchor text or any reference to the competitors domain.
I have tried 'view source' and locating any reference that way but have no luck.
