Tons of spammers recently, just posting useless generic questions and spamming artificial garbage everywhere

I hope not
Bots don't buy anything, actually some of them just steal and scam
Without sales, there is no active BSTs and this forum would basically die or become a bot cemetery
I noticed new members must reach 15 posts before they could buy anything.
Could this be the reason for low activity here?
I am not an expert but.... I never seen this practice in any community...

No buyers = sellers revenue drops = no membership renewals = no money for the forum = less resources for staff/moderation team = you reach a point from where you can no longer recover because damage is already done

Same here.

I sent in a report via the support desk weeks ago and had to follow up because no response was given. Then I was told it is being investigated, and nothing after that.

I can't grasp how I can provide examples and screenshots with proofs within hours, but moderators can't process it within weeks.
I agree with this entire thread. It is exhausting and ruining the board!!!!

What if there was some sort of voting system members on here could do, where a certain amount of votes/for ai, gets a automatic moderator review. Im sure this could be easily abused, but there may b guardrails we could think of

Even if there was 300 moderators on here they are human too they cant catch everything

Best we can do is report every single one of them and not engage
I always call them out!!!!!!

This is a problem on every social media, and unfortunately will continue to get worse; however, good work.

As I usually do, I will just give a list of those infractions, so mods can further investigate it...I won't report every single thread individually as it would take hours, I will just put some examples below.

The pattern is always the same:
- the profile was created this month or last month in most cases
- the profile has 2 names like Richard Anderson, Bill Norton or Elias Wilson, just random examples, but it's like that
- they never appear on their threads again, they just post and vanish, just give a like on the first one or two answers and that's it
- useless questions, the most generic you can think of, like ''why quality content is good?'' or ''is seo worth it in 2026'', meeeeeh
- they answer each other on other threads, not on their own
- the answers on those useless threads are just a bunch of bots answering garbage or vip members flooding their signature banner

I could easily continue until 50 I guess, or maybe 100, but I'm too lazy for that.

Compare the patterns, the usernames, the date their profiles were created, etc...it's just a whole operation to spam the forum with garbage, there are literally tens of profiles. I guess it's the same person or people behind the ''hey everyone'' spam case, that I reported months ago with a bunch of profiles, that's the new version of it, some of those profiles still use the ''hey everyone'' greeting xD

As long as I am not affected by suggested changes from this forum I do not care. In fact, I hate spammers / scammers.

bhw is so big - so many categories and subsections the mods
cant do it all - see it - report it - nack to work

ok man, you've already posted this bla bla bla a few days ago, no need to keep inflating your post counter more than once here

so far nobody was banned
actually i'm seeing some gray names on this thread, I guess I'm closer to be banned than those spammers

the reported posts are still pretty much alive
nobody was banned, new spammers are joining everyday, it seems just a waste of time to still keep reporting (manually or mass report in a post like here)

@Venusaur
your accusin me of post inflation - ide only posted in this thread
twice with the exception of this reply - you had posted 6x in
this thread --- so spammer inflating who again ? glass house and stones

I think is not just a problem to a specific platform but a general problem. Spam can be find from social media to all the other forums. I think this forum still handle them well since have strict rules and warms users who abuse the spam and inflating comments. I'm not sure if anything else can be done in the AI era

Bruh, why do u even care ? Like seriously. Go and make some money, don't waste your time like that. Reporting this, reporting that... I've been there, done that on different forums... new and new spammers keep popping up and this will always be the case.

I haven't been here as long or been as active as most of the other people who've spoken up.

Nevertheless, I'm opposed to the idea of charging for basic forum membership.

First of all, people living in certain countries would be excluded. For those in Europe or the US, what’s $20? A big meal at McDonald’s or a taxi fare. For others, it could be their monthly food budget.
It would be discriminatory, and charging a fee doesn’t protect against spammers. Just look at what X (formerly Twitter) has become.

Someone suggested a BHW-specific CAPTCHA.

Honestly, beyond the technical setup, if you have to deal with a CAPTCHA every time you post, you’ll eventually stop posting.

On the substance: namely, how to avoid spammers. I’m going to be blunt or unpleasant, but a community is also what we make of it.

Of course, there are moderators (volunteers or not, I don’t know). But given the size of the forum, it’s a massive job. So we can lend a hand, too.

As soon as I see something that doesn’t seem right, I report it. Especially since here, it’s just a click and a quick note.

In my last report, I just wrote “WTF.”

If we want this to stay “clean,” maybe it’s up to us to do our part.

Finally, don’t forget that some sections are reserved for paying members and that you need to have enough seniority and activity to access certain parts.

Have to agree that AI responses should be forbidden, it's quite painful to read them
And the worst thing is that they don't understand that we can see it. People have gotten so lazy and stupid nowadays with all the tools that you just can't have a real conversation anymore.

I was arguing with my ex the other day and she used AI to reply to me. Since she's not a power user all of the AI gibberish with em-dashes and words like "quietly" were in there. It was awful.

don't worry, I use this forum as a social media to see during free time, it doesn't mean I'm not making money, I have some friends here and seeing this becoming decadent is frustrating

i'm the OP here, it would be weird if I just post a suggestion and disappear without answering people who are commenting on my thread
only bots are opening threads like the ones I reported and disappearing without engaging with people
you just came to post the same thing twice
pointless

well, the original idea of this thread is to just ban several profiles and delete a bunch of AI generated posts
they are all still active so far
that would be the first step to proceed, i'm not sure about those other ideas suggested by other members
probably, it won't be implemented
if they just ban tens of AI profiles and delete tens or hundreds of useless threads, it would be enough

Don't worry, I understood the premise perfectly. :)
