Hey everyone, I have recently started learning SEO and trying to understand how website rank on Google.

While reading here and there, I keep coming across the term "backlinks", But I am still a bit confused about what they actually are?

some people say the very important while others mention quality matters more than the quantity.

I have not tried building any yet, so I am just trying to get a clear idea at first.

Can someone explain in simple terms what backlinks are and how they actually works?

Backlinks are the links from other websites that points to your site and they helps search engine understand your credibility. when a relevant site links to you, it acts as a trust signal and can improve ranking. Quality matters more than the quantity, especially when the links come from the related content. Focusing on relevant and natural backlinks gives more natural results over time.

Backlinks are links from other websites to yours, signaling trust and authority to Google. High-quality, relevant links improve rankings more than many low-quality ones.

Alicebentley.com wrote an article then noneisnone.com decided to link that article on his website Congrats you just got your first backlink.

Assuming you wrote an article about weight loss it would be ideal if noneisnone.com is an authority site on the subject if it is it would be worth more than 30 backlinks coming from random websites also do follow backlinks are more important than no follow

Backlinks are links from other websites pointing to yours, acting as signals of trust and relevance to search engines like Google. When a credible site links to your content, it suggests your information is useful, which can improve your rankings. However, quality matters far more than quantity. A few strong, relevant backlinks are much more valuable than many weak ones. It is also important to understand that not all backlinks are beneficial. Links from spammy, irrelevant, or low-quality websites can actually harm your site’s reputation and rankings if they appear manipulative. Search engines assess the authority of the linking site, the context of the link, and how naturally it is placed. In simple terms, backlinks are like recommendations, but poor recommendations can damage credibility.

A backlink is simply a link from one website to another.
Example:
If a blog links to your article -> that’s a backlink for you.
Search engines like Google treat backlinks as votes of confidence.
How Backlinks Work: Website A links to Website B
The more quality votes you get, the more search engines trust your site.

Backlinks are links from other websites pointing to your site, like votes of trust On Google, quality matters more than quantity strong, relevant links help rankings more

Backlinks are just links from other sites pointing to your website. They help Google see your site as trusted, so better ranking.

Backlinks other websites linking to yours.

They act like votes of trust more quality, relevant links stronger rankings not just more links).

What other members said are all true but the most important part is not just getting many links, but getting them from relevant and trustworthy sites, since that’s what actually helps rankings.

Backlinks are links from other websites that point to your site, like a "vote of trust" telling search engines your content is useful. The more high-quality and relevant sites link to you, the more your site can gain authority and rank higher on Google. It's not about getting tons of links-just a few strong, trustworthy backlinks can be more powerful than many low-quality ones.

Backlinks are basically links from other websites pointing to your site , like a vote of trust in Google's eyes . The more good-quality sites link to you , the more reliable your site looks . Getting a few strong , relevant backlinks is way better than having tons of low-quality ones.

Backlinks are basically links from other sites pointing to yours, and they act like trust signals.

From what I’ve seen, quality matters a lot more than quantity. A few links from relevant, authoritative sites usually work better than a bunch of low quality ones. It’s better to keep things natural and focus on relevance instead of trying to force it.

It's just like word of mouth talk. If good & respectable people say good things about you, it'll have more value (quality) than when criminals & junkies say good things about you. They are both backlinks but quality matters here.

Millions of people know celebrities and politicians but only hundreds of thousands of people know a bartender or a waitress. The celebrities and politicians can influence more people due to their reach. The quantity matters here.

It's basically a combination of quality and quantity. The quantity is meaningless without quality and the quality is less effective without quantity.

It's essential to focus on relevance when acquiring backlinks and it is also about getting links from sites that are closely related to your niche. I've seen better results when the linking site is not only authoritative but also topically relevant, it helps to build a stronger trust signal. Earning links from trusted sites takes time and effort, but it's worth it in the long run. What's important is to create content that's useful and worthy of being linked to, this way you're more likely to get natural, high-quality backlinks. Creating value is key, and it helps to establish your site as an authority in your niche.
