Yeah I got caught off guard by their renewal fees as well. I mean not as bad as some other registrars still but if you have their Whois protection, definitely a lot more $ than Namecheap or other reasonable registrars.

Make sure it's a legit offer, I get a lot of BS offers. A good way to spot a scammer is to google their email message, a lot of them just rehash the same crap.

Start with friends and family first to try to land clients, if none of them directly needs your services ask them to refer you to someone they know who might be interested. Something is bound to turn up.

So it's been a while since I've sold advertising spots, recently got contacted by a fairly well known company in that niche for one of my side projects that is interested in advertising. I haven't followed up yet but want to have an idea beforehand of what would be a fair rate to charge them...

If you're in a niche where prospects are more scarce this may be more effective than cold calling if tweaked a bit IMO.
