Opinions on this WP link structure

I'm using permalinks as post names so:

site.com/page-name/

I'm doing a resource type of site so I think it would be better to use pages instead of posts as there won't be too many pages and there will also be posts so I don't want to strip out the typical blog info like date, author etc.

So right now it there's a site.com/recipes/ page where I will be linking out to each individual recipe page. Let's say I have a page called Simple Rice Recipe, should I set Recipes as its parent so that the final link looks like this: site.com/recipes/simple-rice-recipe/

Or should I not set it as a parent so the link looks like site.com/simple-rice-recipe/

Which would be more advantageous? I'm a little rusty on what the current recommendation is...

If you intent to have multiple recipes, I would go with site.com/recipes/simple-rice-recipe/

That's exactly right.

If your website talk about only recipes not required "site.com/recipes/simple-rice-recipe/" this type url. Also you have different kind of categories you can make it out like this.

Other wise this is ok for ranking: site.com/simple-rice-recipe/

This is very best idea i must say when it is about seo because your every page can appear of search engine easily.

if you have lots of pages e.g more than 50- 100 then use site.com/recipes/simple-rice-recipe/
for less than 50 use site.com/simple-rice-recipe/

Using the parent category is a good idea IMO. The only reason I don't do it more often is I forget and don't pay attention. I never post with the dates though its always either domain/cat/article or domain/article-name/ with domain/cat/article being the preference just like you mentioned. Not only does it help separate things further and add more keywords but the internal linking structure of WP tends to naturally make your frequent categories the strongest URLs, unless you're doing link building to internal pages, so it certainly doesn't hurt to make use of them as much as possible.
