It's a penalty on pages and is not site wide but is does affect the entire site. A site will share it's link juice because of intersite linking and if a pages juice get wiped out via penalty it affects the whole.

I don't think it would be a good long term plan to backlink your site with a massive amount of forum links and blog comments. This will get you penalized and deindexed pretty fast these days. You should think of creating a link structure (with only good unique backlinks directly to your money...

A trackback is just a notification. Do anything aside from marking them as spam. Most of them are spam but some of them are legit. Just don't waste your time with them... The spam trackbacks are just volume grabs (hey! visit my site, I linked to you).

Sorry I forgot to add the meat. Press releases on authority news sites have been doing really well. I'm in the insurance niche and my content is significantly superior to these press releases and i'm getting slaughtered by them. Proper PRs are expensive thought. Pretty mainstream if you ask me.
