Many experts think that Meta Keywords are redundant now, but other SEO guru's disagree.
Are useful or not??

Mixed views on this, I don't use it and I'm ranking well for my sites at present.

Mixed messages in most forums, all i know is that if done correctly, which i have done on my own sites, it has made a difference. Not a massive difference, but still worthwhile IMO.

Why not you test yourself..

Set exactly same parameters for 5 sites. Just put variations of meta keywords. You'll get the answer yourself.

The best way is post more articles with basic seo instead of good seo articles. There is a lot of chance then doing meta, etc

Since the post was already bumped. I figured I'd give a modern 2017 update to it. There are stronger factors but people who claim meta keywords does nothing usually aren't doing the math. I see it correlate with ranking position frequently.

Usually, more than 4 types of Meta tags are out there. Today, some are not worth as once they were, especially the Meta keywords tag.

Meta Keywords tag is totally a worthless tag that is no longer used by most search engines, as it was a way abused by spammers in the past.

Other tags, in particular, the title tag, Meta robots tag, and Meta description tag are useful for increasing your traffic.

IMO, meta keywords are useless for SEO because it allows the competitors to see what keywords they're targeting.

I haven't used meta keywords/descriptions in ten years. Stopped long before they even said they were useless. Well not entirely true I will use descriptions for some important pages, but to improve click-thru rates not for SEO value.

tbh i use keywords meta tag cuz they are pickable from GSA.

what else, other search engines still pay attention for meta keywords= they rank u higher
what else, a lot of other kind of crawlers like these from ahrefs/majestic or whatever will use search engines like bing or yahoo. obviously they will discover u first if your page is closer to top 1.
now this is nice because that counts as actual backlink! and google sees that

apart from that, putting keywords in meta keyword tag also is crawlable by google bots. Maybe it doesnt have any influence directly, however the ratio of keywords to code is bigger.

page text to code ratio is important factor. i believe this includeds stuff in <head>.

It's something that's worth doing simply because it only takes a couple minutes. Just don't make them look spammy or over optimized. In my personal experience though, they're not something you need in order to rank. Most of the sites on page one for my current project don't have them. Title and Description are still important. Description more than Title imo.

Even though the meta keyword tags have been useless for a while now, some tags still play a big part in SEO
