A Complete Beginners Wordpress Amazon Affiliate Journey

Hi again,
I have been trying to get some guest posting opportunities myself in the last few week.
My first outreach trials were largely unsuccessful with about the same kind of response you got. I think that many of the sites that I want to guest post for don't accept affiliate sites by default. Im guessing that they get a LOT of request from sites just like mine. (and probably yours)
So, why dont we make our sites look more like a normal blog? I decided to try. Jazzed up my about page first with a few more photos of "me". :) Wrote a long story of "my" life. Basically i created a person that is much more likely to be real.
Next i added a few post on the site that are more general than the ones where i am trying to sell products. Still within the same general niche (more or less), but they are written in a much more loose tone. More personal i guess.
Now, i have gotten 3 guest posts accepted and i am talking with a few more blogs about doing one for them as well.

Might be a coincidence, but i suspect that i am on the right track with creating a more convincing story about the person.

Hey man, awesome that you have got some guest blog posts.

I have tried to make my site as legit as possible too. 40% of my posts are informational that subtly link out to my reviews of products. My 'about me' is personalised with a pic.

Have sent off a few more emails tonight so will see what happens!

What is the conversion rate from google impressions to site visits, and what is your CTR? You need to improve your snippet preview if the first one is low. On another note, have you read about siloing a website? If you are planning to build a large site, you definitely should read about it.

Hey man,

Not ranking for enough keywords / getting enough impressions at the moment to get a big enough sample size to get an accurate reflection of this yet. I have edited all meta descriptions and SEO titles to make them appealing.

I have read a lot about siloing. However, there seems to be so much contradiction as to whether it is effective / able to be done on Wordpress. Have you had much experience with it?

Currently, I have quite a bit of interlinking going on between my pillar posts and smaller posts... Still playing around.

Well, i'm not en expert at this either. But i've seen some good results on my WP websites. Better structuring your content and applying the siloing rules for anchors and inner linking, definitely helps. First part of this article is applicable to WP in my opinion.

How did you find a picture to use?

How did you find a picture to use?

I just edited a stock photo. Or use a photo that's free to reuse. Can be seen as an ethical gray area... but I'm not going to put a picture of myself on there.

Not too much to report this week team. Still adding content. Been playing around with Reddit... It's amazing. Driving some decent traffic to my site. Clicks to Amazon from this traffic is hovering around 5ish %. Conversions on Amazon are around 8%. I have made a total of 12 sales so far this week.

I love seeing the random stuff people buy on Amazon from my links... Onesies, webcams and even a TV... When people say Amazon does a good job of selling, it really does!

My revenue from AdSense per impression is around 50c to $1 a day - I have only had 3 people click on ads - get around 20c to 45c per click it looks like. I still don't know too much about how AdSense works - just experimenting.

I have a busy week coming up with work and then am overseas for another week, so might not be able to work on my website as much as I would like during this time. But will try to update both it and my thread if I get a chance.

My focus now is on building links to my website as well as a few more long tail articles when I get a chance.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me and the PM's I have been getting. This forum is amazing.

First of all, Congratulation for 1st sale and hope your sale and ranking will grow consistently, and we will get more threads like this to read.
I just want to ask that how do you manage time to learn and design your site?

That's definitely a challenge. I just try to educate myself on SEO or do something on my website at least once every day. It helps that I am addicted to this forum and procrastinate heavily on it while at work.

I am also working on my 1st niche site. I have registered domain and designed site but i am stucked after publishing a content. Already wrote content title eg: should i buy ..... or not? with advantages and disadvantages. Now what type of content should write review or another informative content?

Not too sure. But there are plenty of guides on BHW you can follow if you are lost. Keep experimenting. That's what I am doing.

All the best for your journey. I just wanted to add my 2 cents on your guest post strategy. It seems you are approaching websites and blogs that are not really in need of guest posts. Why not outreach sites that are looking for guest posts.

A couple of simple searches you can use are:

keyword/niche "Guest Post Guidelines"

keyword/niche "Guest Posting Guidelines"

So, you have much more chances getting accepted in such websites. All the best again.

Congrats on your earnings. OP thanks for your detailed posts.

Thanks for the advice. Many of the websites I have contacted are like that. I have actually got one positive response now. However, it has taken about 3 hours of emailing -_- and the metrics of the site are pretty meh.

Congrats on your earnings. OP thanks for your detailed posts.

No worries mate. Thanks for following.

Good Luck
Following your journey

Congrats on your earning

Cheers guys. Currently on vacation for a week so haven't had a chance to work on the site.

Been checking on it regularly when I get access to wifi. Currently flying up the SERPs for some of my main keywords which is great. Made 5 more sales yesterday as a result.

Will continue the grind when I am back home.

Offtopic: cheeky snap of where im staying, anyone need some holiday stock photos?!

Hey mate how is this going? would love to know how you are doing.

Hi man,

Sorry there haven't been many updates lately. Life has got hectic after my vacation and I have an exam to sit in a few days for my CA.

I have still been working on the site building backlinks and some content. Right now I am receiving a steady 50 - 70 visits from organic searches a day and my keywords are slowly starting to drift from page 2 to page 1 for some of my low-medium keywords.

In relation to earnings I am making around 0.20c to $3 a day adsense (CPC seems to average around 0.60c). And Amazon is a bit hit and miss... I am getting about 5 - 15 clicks a day from my affiliate links from the organic searches. Conversion is around 4.5%.

Will be on holiday for 1 month over Christmas so will be working flat out on the site.

Hi guys,

Again I have been terrible at updating this thread. Site is starting to pick up now even though I have done hardly any work since November. Am earning a decent amount from adsense but getting some good Amazon earnings too. Looking to get back into things and add a bit more content to the site in the next few weeks to get more keywords ranking. But hey, heres to show that things really do become semi-passive once the ball gets rolling!

Still chump change... but its something!

Until next time.

awesome journey , super similar to what I'm about to start myself. If you don't mind me asking , what was the average difficulty of your niche via semrush's keyword magic tool?
