Wow already a sale. Nice motivation boost for you. :)

You have a similar story as my gf. She is an accountant aswell and worked for one of the big 4. My guess is you are really good at what you are doing but you don't like to be an accountant for the rest of your life.

Update 09/03/2016

What have I done this week?

This week has been an incredibly busy week at work. I have found hardly any time to work on my website. Which really sucks.

Although I have made progress and updated a few things.

No more sales unfortunately... but I am getting a decent amount of clicks on my affiliate links (up to 25 per day).

In terms of my positions in the SERPs, my initial thought about my rankings being the google dance have been proven correct and the rankings have fallen way back (average position of 126 - Yuck).
Albeit some short tail competitive keywords are scewing the average.

Content

I have written 5 new posts on my website (3 reviews and 2 information posts) that are from 500 to 700 words each. I was hoping to write more and I will try get at least another 3 articles written and posted today.

Link Building

I have also begun to start building back links. In my forum posts I am now answering questions and dropping the odd link back to my website (which is generating a decent amount of traffic). None of my links have been removed by mods and are being generally well accepted by the community which is awesome.

In terms of social media, all my new posts are automatically posted to facebook, twitter and tumblr etc. I have been struggling to get followers and likes though... so have been on a campaign of following / adding 20 - 30 people per day per account to try and bolster my social media presence.

I created a quora account and have been answering questions there (with my link). My answers are very long and detailed so I have been getting heaps of 'answer requests' and views on my answers. Although it is still early days and have not seen much referals back to my site from Quora yet.

Other link building I have been doing is commenting on blogs / press releases. Although the majority of these are nofollow and I doubt it is doing too much good.

Traffic Bolstering

One of the key things I did this week (a bit foolishly) - but I am a n00b, is sign up to Bing webmaster tools.

With this I got $100USD free advertising credit for ads on bing. I set up a few campaigns just to test CPC advertising and use up the free credit I got given (I am not going to pay any of my own money).

The traffic generated from these ads has been ridiculous... It has completely scewed my analytics:

AND... while my traffic is going nuts, and my affiliate links are being clicked on... I have had no new sales - Rats!

However, still early days so will keep grinding hard!

Another Mistake! Ugh!

I used 'site:mywebsite.com' in google to see which posts of mine have been indexed by google... and what I found was that google has only indexed my categories and tags pages. Which looks absolutely shit. None of my posts have been indexed.

So I did a bit of research and found that with Yoast SEO there is an option to noindex categories and tags which I had not checked....

I have updated these settings. But being a new site - the indexed pages still have not changed. I have used webmaster tools to 'fetch as google' on each of my posts to try and speed up the process but no luck yet.

What Am I Going to Do Over the Next Week?

Over the next week I am still going to focus on getting more content on to my site. I will continue to slowly build back links (although I am going to need to come up with a strategy to get a few high authority links). I am also going to use up my Bing ads credit (which expires anyway) and get my analytics back to reporting a more normalised traffic flow.

Also thank you so much for the PM's and support I have been getting so far. Very encouraging!

I am currently studying about this affiliate thing. I hope I can start soon. Thanks for the great tips. You said you are a n00b but not anymore because you a mentor now! thanks for the inspiration.

Good luck and I will follow this one.

Good luck man

Cheers guys. Spent a lot of time last night analysing my number one competitor. Seems he is using a massive PBN but all of his links are from really crappy websites that have nothing to do with the niche.... but he has a lot of back links and is currently ranking No. 1 for the majority of my keywords. Hopefully some high authority contextulised links (if I can get them) will knock him off his high horse. All in good time.

Personal PBN will be costly, so you can try web 2.0 first to build some ******** contextual links.

I don't plan to use PBN's. My competition uses them. I have sent about 10 outreach emails for guest posts for some high DA blogs in my niche. Hopefully I can get some decent links this way. I have also been building links through forum posts, blog comments small fry stuff as well.

I realise it is going to take a longer time to rank... but looking long term.

As a fellow noob you are doing fantastic.

I have been through the stages you are going through a dozen times now and failed every time,
but, I keep on getting closer and keep on learning as you will.

I have a few ideas for you. It's up to you if you want to investigate them.

When looking at Google results page for a keyword always check how many hits it has.
It's not a perfect solution to how competitive a kw is but will give you a rough idea.
For a non-authoritive\new site I target longtails with less than 500,000 hits.

If you want to dig deeper look at the da\pa of the top 10 (as you do)
but checking for hits first you can save a lot of time by discarding kws with 10s of millions of hits.
I learnt that the hard way on ,y latest site, I have loads of "low" comp longtails but nearly all had 10m+ hits
and I can't rank any of them but the one lucky one I did pick had 500k hits and its on page 1.

As for social media followers, what I am now doing and it's working is use Fan machine pro 2 (free download in downloads section)
I don't use it to auto comment (i deleted all the comments stuff ) but it posts auto on facebook from rss feeds
using your keywords, but more importantly it goes around liking similar posts for you automatically, its awesome,
my fan pages went from dead to several hundred followers in a week.

I keep an eye on the posts though and delete shit or irrelevant posts

I have a tip for getting more articles quicker.

Grab some really good articles in your niche and manually rewrite every line to make it your own.
Add some of your own lines and delete some lines.
Add your own twist to the article and sometimes I mix 2 or 3 of these articles together to make a big cool article
that is totally my own.

you are just using the original authors article framework and idea, change the title of course
and add your own keywords.

As a fellow noob these are a few of the things that seem to be work for me.

Regards and good luck with your journey.
