So we all know these tools are only 'so accurate', but you'd think they'd be in the same ballpark at least.

Looking at US traffic volumes for a client's site in SEMRush and Ahrefs reveals this:

So, Analytics says we got 9k Organic traffic in the US last month, which makes neither figure too close. Any advice on which tools is at least going to be vaguely useful here for monitoring our US performance? To make it worse, Ahrefs says we're smashing our main competition, while SEMrush says we're miles behind. Who can we trust?

Ahrefs detects far more backlinks for each site too, so does Ahrefs report more false positives/duplicates than SEMrush, or is the latter just lazy and superficial with its searching? Which do you trust? Who do you think is most accurate with their estimates?

Answer : Google Analytics

Did you mean in comparison to competitors, if yes then these are best IMHO than any one else out there.

PS : And im at beginner level of IM so ask experts.

It's almost like they don't have real data and they are just making their best guesses for a lot of this stuff.......

I don't really look at tools like this for traffic estimates. Mainly because they all say something different.

I run them mainly to check for off-page stuff and keywords. SEMrush, OSE, Ahrefs, Majestic, Cognitive, and so on.... they all have different results.

None of them ever match what is in your GA and Seach Console.

Yeah, sorry - poor phrasing. Obvs Analytics is our main tool for performance, meant for comparing to competitors (client seems more interested in how others' sites are running than their own half the time).

Thanks for the response though, good to hear opinions on tools :)

I trust semrush more, Its depends on you. Traffic figures is just a estimation.

is ahrefs estimate only organic traffic or organic traffic + referral trafic ? because semrush definetly shows organic traffic only. it may explains the difference.

Also, there have been a big update on adwords recently, making search volume totally biased (like "seo" and "search engine optimization" displays the same search volume, they are grouped) which could make a lot of tools which didn't adjust to overestimate a lot organic trafic.

Finally, I think you can get the number of keywords the webite the rank for on ahrefs and semrush. Try to see if there is a logical difference, ahrefs is maybe tracking more keywords than semrush (but I doubt it could make such a huge difference because all keywords with big search volume should be tracked by both).

instead why not you track your keywords in SERP also and match the traffic from your analytics of Google or any other with that SERP postions to find out how you are performing.

Then try to guess and match that data with those SEM rush, ahrefs etc

I don't trust any of these sites with their traffic data. The best way to find out is checking how accurate their traffic data is for your site and then you know how much they're just bullshitting you.

I don't think there is any tools that will get you a 100% fully completed anaytics.

But it all depends on which one you'll going to trust to deliver you the best
