Quit My Job Today

so you can just go to the beach now.......you gonna end up buddies with Frank kern?

seriously, your good work ethic will prob mean you having to force yourself away from the work.

one thing I would do is make it a MUST to have things going that only take up to 2-4 hours a week to manage

automate and outsource.

I know you know all this but this is the only time you will get to really set things up the perfect way you want them, after you start you can easily get sucked into 12 hour days even(especially) when you dont have a boss

all the best

Congratulations dude, I hope to be joining you in being free of the shitty dayjob within the next year or so. Just dont let your freedom go to your head and spend ALL the time at the beach ;)

I agree. I make a lot less than I could but I refuse to work more than 25 hours a week. I make enough to do what I like and thats the balance for me. I used to work WAY too much, its not worth it!

FREEDOM

I've been working for a software programmer for six years and have been working out of my home for the past two of them. My boss told me this morning (after an argument) that he wants me to start working out of HIS house in an effort to "regain control of his company". The company has been heading down the shitter for a long time now. His offline software is quickly being replaced by quicker and more detailed online solutions from other vendors. Asking me to give up IM and leave my home to work was pretty much forcing me to quit and he knew that.

I haven't needed the job for a long time now and only kept doing it out of loyalty and the extra paycheck. My job was pretty simple too, just answer the phone and provide IT support. It did hold me back from doing many IM related things though. Anyone that's talked to me on aol/yahoo/etc knows I leave people hanging and just come and go without notice, lol. This is because of the phone. Hopefully this will put an end to that. :)

Today I feel a sense of freedom that I haven't felt in years and just thought I'd share.

I owe this all to Harro and Havok. :D

My pleasure and my next task is to help you make enough to retire :D

CONGRATS BRO!!! TOLD YOU, YOU COULD DO IT :D

It hit me a few hours after I got off the phone with him. I can goto the beach!! Go anywhere I want!! I'm not tied down to the house/phone all day!!

YaY :D

Congrats and respect to you Pofecker!

I did a similar thing a long long time ago - it takes balls and belief in yourself and what your doing!

I have zero regrets and absolutely love what i do, i wish you the same and all the best for the future!

Good for you if you can do it!

i quit a deadend job 2 years ago, programming and website design. Owner came to me.. "yea, we want to give you more work and responsability." I'm thinking great, bigger paycheck.. then he follows that up with. "Unfortently, we're going to have to cut back on your paycheck by 15%" F that, put in my 2 weeks and and god a similar job with 1 of his bigest clients. :D

Still growing the balls, have a baby on the way so the extra paycheck is quite useful. After that, definitely going solo. Funny how most of us are in IT and have transposed to the "dark side." If you ask me there is nothing darker than the actions of many corporations and businesses that have enslaved us all.

Ive never actually had a "career" job, as in something that a normal person would stick with... but damn it feels good not having to "go to work"!

I dont have bills like some of you guys because I am just in university, so i guess its easier for me not to have a "real job" than many of you.

I just love the fact I can go to the cottage during the week while my friends are working their shitty 40 hour a week summer jobs. -all while making many times more than them.

Congrats, I hope you arent even at your computer now, I hope you are taking a spontaneous trip somewhere! haha.

Congrats man, I wish you well in the use of your new free time. I'm sure you'll kill it!

Congrats. I just quit mine too and this is inspiring. I worked for an adult search engine and review site that shall remain nameless. It was a good run but working for someone is never as rewarding as having your own business. Best of luck to you!

Congrats man .. it will hopefully be the best thing to happen to you! I quit last September, the thought of going back to a workplace scares me!

Good luck to you

Congrats Bro. I cant wait until I can post and say I quit my job today. I have been a Mental Health Counselor for a few years now. And even though it feels good assisting individuals, it is time for me to move on and experience FREEDOM.
