Quit My Job Today

FREEDOM

I've been working for a software programmer for six years and have been working out of my home for the past two of them. My boss told me this morning (after an argument) that he wants me to start working out of HIS house in an effort to "regain control of his company". The company has been heading down the shitter for a long time now. His offline software is quickly being replaced by quicker and more detailed online solutions from other vendors. Asking me to give up IM and leave my home to work was pretty much forcing me to quit and he knew that.

I haven't needed the job for a long time now and only kept doing it out of loyalty and the extra paycheck. My job was pretty simple too, just answer the phone and provide IT support. It did hold me back from doing many IM related things though. Anyone that's talked to me on aol/yahoo/etc knows I leave people hanging and just come and go without notice, lol. This is because of the phone. Hopefully this will put an end to that. :)

Today I feel a sense of freedom that I haven't felt in years and just thought I'd share.

I owe this all to Harro and Havok. :D

Good luck my friend!

Congratulations on being free, must be a real thrill to be able to go where ever you want.

Very nice Pofecker, I think we are in the same branche I am not in my Boss his home working for him taking the phone and calling businesses for IT support I hope that I'll find this total financial freedom aswell! Because it simple as you said but it's so damn boring aswell just going trough topics on BHW and making a phone call every now and then while boss is sitting in the next room :P

Congratulations!!!

Are you a East coast or West coast guy?

It hit me a few hours after I got off the phone with him. I can goto the beach!! Go anywhere I want!! I'm not tied down to the house/phone all day!!

YaY :D

This life is my dream but my life its not my dream lol
Really great and good adventure without BOSS :)

Yea i quit a few months back after my IM took off, havent looked back and loving life and the much higher income ever since

Nice move, I was in IT for 15 years. I left that 3 years ago, my only problem now is trying not to work so much. I have never been so into what I do as I am now. Given I make a lot less than I did then...but I do what I want when I want. I for the most part I have been successful. Now, I am working on earning enough so my wife can quit and get her masters...

One, note ... we go to the coast once a month. And we just got back from San Francisco ... and I have plenty of vacation time left.

Always wanted to say this...

Who's the boss now? You are!

Keep up the work man, I'm on my way to doing the same thing at 19 years of age.

I realized the same thing after quitting.

However, I still catch myself thinking I have to "go in" to work, goto bed early so I can get up, or planning things around my old 9-5. Those thoughts are slowly going away but every once in awhile I catch myself.

Another thing I feel now that I count on myself for money is guilt.
Even if Im having a great day, money making wise, I still feel guilty about playing xbox for 45 min in middle of day, when I could be actually making myself more money.

It is obvious you are uber knowledgable and good at IM but regardless
Good Luck to You. The right choice was made.

Congrats Buddy :)

Jobs suck - I can't bare working for anyone else but myself

Welcome to the club and Congrats

Yeah I agree, jobs suck.

Just a short story here. The other day I ran into a guy at Starbucks that I used to work with a few years ago. He's still at the same place. I asked him how everything was over there and he said it's the same old thing and the same old people. He told me that if I wanted to come back to work he could probably help me out.

My reaction? I nearly spilled my blended Mocha!!! I told him that I was happy with my IM business, making good money and that I would never go back to a 9 - 5 job. I tried to explain to him what it is that I do but I don't think that he understood the concept of being self employed.

I get that a lot. lol

Anyway, I have no doubt that pofecker will be very successful in life.

Congrats pofecker, there aint nothing quite like having money come in without having to go anywhere or do anything :)

Congratulations mate, I have to say I am extremely envious. I am working towards the same goal in 12 months or less. I have just bought a house and had my first baby so responsibilities have increased, plus I make good money doing my full time job, so i will only make the switch when I am consistently making what I make now from IM.

You are an inspiration

Guys, I think this is good starting for BHW, If you want to Jr VIP and above, you must quit your jobs first.
