Ask me anything about dropshipping on ebay

Thanks for the reply, I currently have a seller account with 98% feedback and around 50 reviews. No PayPal holds. So it's really as simple as that then. Doesn't Amazon get pissed about abusing Prime or do they really not care that much at all?

Sometimes they do sometimes they don't. If you get an amzon accountbanned just make a new one with a new email address. I use my top level domain (business site) so i literally just make a new email address there in 10 seconds and make a new account. They love how we dorpshippers do tons of orders so you have to see it differently. they cut us off and they lose some good sales.

Tons of people do dropshipping. Everywhere around you, we buy things at marked up prices :)

That's awesome. I have 3 or 4 Amazon accounts, one of which has Prime, but it is also my seller account. I will wait till i get my payout before trying it with that account. Thanks.

thanks for the quick reply, let's say I got some ebooks to sell and got some 3 or 4 friends to buy from me 2 items each, would ebay suspect anything if it's done in like 2 weeks max ?

You definitely want to steer clear of ebooks. They are one of the items on eBay that gets accounts banned fast. I recommend you sell kitchen appliances, baby and toddler toys, etc.. things that are not techy/electronic

In terms of tempo, I usually have my gold star within three hours of creating a new account :)

I find your post extremely interesting.

I have a 4 year old ebay with 60+ feedback at 100%, about 10 in the last six months. I have a and DO NOT have any holds when people pay. Monthly limits are currently 200 listings/10,000 per month. I have pp debit that i use on my amazon e

I m very familiar with ebays terms and rules. I currently only use my ebayto flip random thrift store/yard sale finds, but I will only undertake dropshipping if i am confident I can maintain my ebay status and my customers' satisfaction.

SO HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:

Without implementing on the fly price check/adjustment, what is the best way to mitigate risks associated with constant price fluctuation?

You said when you started you started pumping out hundreds of listings a day: with my limit of 200 listings per month, is it better to focus on items that will profit more money per listing vs. focusing on items with a higher roi percentage?

Starting out, what is the best way to find items to dropship?

Do you use the prime option to ship or do you select the slower shipping method?

Can you give a past example of an item you successfully dropshipped to an ebay customer from amazon?

What are some of the mistakes you have made since starting this dropshipping?

Answer as many as few as you have time for.

(sorry couldnt figure out why the automoderator thing wouldnt let me post)

From your experience, what sort of things sell the best?
Id imagine games, music, dvds etc.. media/electronic things would do quite well

Wonderful thread full of great info. My question is: If you were starting over today with all the knowledge you have about this business, what is/are the main thing(s) you'd do differently?

can you please give some idea on price tag. how much is the max priced item you are listing.

You'd be surprised at what you can sell. It's not ALWAYS electronics. Here's an example of what I've sold recently:

You really just need to list in quantity, all kinds of items to find which will sell. You definitely are not limited.
Eventually you will develop an eye for picking out items that have a higher chance of selling. And the items
that sell on a regular basis are the ones that you ultimately want!

My Partner will reply to the questions i have missed.

Cheers!

How do you increase seller limits on a aged account = 5/5000?

Good q's. Set a high profit margin like ($8): You'll make a lot less sales but you'll usually be in the green at the end of most price fluctuations. What's extremely exciting about your situation though is that you can create other accounts and attach them to your paypal. Up to seven more can be attached and they will all have their holds off

At 200 items/60 feedback I would focus on building feedback (selling items at a low pm)

Use Prime. Takes care of so many problems

It's technically against Amazon's TOS to drop ship using prime but nobody that I know has ever had a problem doing it. (We're making Amazon money right. In particular I/we (me and saul) also use Fedex 2 day so that we get the red "Fast Shipping" icon. Makes our listings pop in the queue)

I could give you thousands of examples :) Item doesn't matter as long as it's low risk (not electronic/flashy)

*laughs nostalgically* I made plenty of mistakes when I first started. I would say that I didn't learn enough about the selling process/ what it takes to become a successful seller BEFORE jumping into things. If I could do it all over again I'd probably read a lot more and have taken more courses from the beginning (would have saved me six-eight months of really hard work and probably somewhere in the xxx,xxx of dollars)

Stay away from everything you just mentioned :) Flashy/Electronic items are too risky. Especially coming from a new account.

If you have hundreds of feedback by all means go for it.. but until then you want to stick with kitchen appliances, office supplies, etc

Glad you're enjoying it! I threw one somewhere up there^ but another big one would be learning about tools and systems. You can automate this entire ebay process (auto feedback, auto relisters, auto messages, auto listing, auto pricepoint monitoring. I now make 10x what I used to make. I also work 10-100x less hard)

It's crazy to me thinking about it. I used to wake up at 5 am, crank out listings until 10, hit starbucks, come back by 11.. all the way up to 1 or 2am ish. It was insane

Nowadays I literally click a couple buttons and hop on to answer a question here or there. Money in the bank

can you please give some idea on price tag. how much is the max priced item you are listing.

Down the line you can list higher priced items at higher profit margins. When you're first starting off you'll have paypal holds so I recommend you list the least expensive items you can find

Unless it's a stealth account, you don't. Nix it and start a new one (If you know what you're doing you can start off at a 500-1000 selling limit). Usually you can call eBay and they'll upgrade you by 100% 45 days after your accounts creation

Saul did a great job answering everyone's questions. I just thought I'd add my 2 cents

Is the hold imposed primarily by Ebay, Paypal, or some combination of the two?

That is, if someone started a brand new eBay account today, and attached it to a 10+ year old PayPal Business account with six-digit transactions yearly and fully verified (legit, not stealth), would it be reasonable to expect a shorter waiting period before removing the hold?

Usually it has to be 90 days from your first sale on eBay. The hold is coming from Paypals side though so YRMV: My advice is to call them and ask about your account specifically

Where did this aging/raising limits thing get out from? Is it some kind of unwritten rule?

Simple. Make a new account and link the same paypal. eBay allows multiple accounts but don't over do it.

Your new account will be a 500/25000 after you list an item (can be anything to activate the seller account).

Fill out everything you possibly can inside the eBay account. Hope this helps!

Do you guys use the gift packaging option when you ship from Amazon? If not are there ever invoices in the packaging? I would think this might be an option but I've read Amazon has gone paperless and does not send them anymore. I don't really buy things on Amazon.
The Pricematik tool looks awesome, although I haven't successfully listed anything with it yet.

Hey Euphorix, Great thread!

My post was censored so i'll only as this: Do you use a tailored piece of software that you made yourself and what parts of your process can you not automate?

Thanks.

We do have a software we had coded to help us speed up the item grabbing aspect. There is still work involved don't get it wrong. If you have
VA's working for you then you can pretty much have hands off training. I recommend this thread by BTB http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/making-money/794921-do-you-want-multiply-your-income-clone-yourself.html which covers the VA's outsourcing
part pretty damn well!

I'm sure you canautomate just about everything though there are some things that require hands on work such as keeping up with customers and helping
with returns and refunds because defects and damaged items do happen, and you can expect to run into those angry consumers once in a while.

Cheers
