Hello all. New here. Short background story - I used to create affiliate sites about 3-4 years ago, when it was stupid easy. Never really got the hang of it (I start something for a week, then get distracted by a shiny object). I did have one site making over $1,200/month for about 6 months - hijacked a popular brand name, didn't end well. I got interested in making a site(s) again for some side income and stumbled upon BHW. It has consumed me for the last 2 weeks and inspired me, so thanks to you all.
Since I know I use to have shiny object syndrome, I am posting to hold my self accountable and get advice along my journey. I think $250 a month is very obtainable. I PLAN to make a niche site and use a mixture of social media and SEO to rank it. I am going to use adsense and Amazon as my main 'money making' platform. Not sure if others will apply to my niche or not, I am sure to discover other methods.
I have already built a list of about 30 keywords - plan on continue growing it - most of them get between 250-500 global searches. Currently I have 7 that get over 1,000 searches and 1 that is 4,500. All have low competition (according to Long Tail Pro <~32). The 'niche keyword' has 47,000 searches, but no chance of ranking it - at least for me.
I plan on writing articles and using pictures. I will have a Facebook page and probably run Facebook Ads, at least at first (my day job is running FB ads for a company). I don't have much extra money to put in, but I will get some articles using iWriter (and then corrected them) some. (BTW, if you guys know of anyway of bringing in quick cash, even small amounts, let me know so I can put it towards the project - I'd appreciate it.) Plan on all articles being at least 700 words, shooting for 1000+. Probably use instagram and pinterest to drive traffic as well.
My niche is something a lot of people have, but is not a necessity - however, people will splurge on it.
The domain am using is one in my GoDaddy account (I have 80+ because I have so many 'ideas' that never happen). It's 4 years old, but only has something trivial like a DA of 3, so who cares.
I use to understand backlinking methods - now I am not so sure. I never got big into using web 2.0 or any of it, but look forward to learning about it as the time comes to start link building - suggestions?
I have no idea how long this will take, but plan on documenting it for accountability sake.
Am I headed in the right direction? Is $250/month achievable? Suggestions?
