A good read. How do you use tag pages, should they be indexed? Won't they cause duplicate content?

You can edit the tag pages by going to your Wordpress dashboard>Posts>Tags. From there, you can select a tag and click the "Edit" button to add a description.

As for internal non-malicious duplicate content, I'm still a bit conflicted on this. While I've never had an issue with it myself, there are others who claim that their websites have been harmed by it. I may do a case study later in the year with a couple of my domains to see if no-indexing these pages has any effect on my rankings.

If you don't plan on adding any unique articles to the category or tag pages, feel that they would be of no use to your visitors, or you think the risks (e.g., inefficient crawling) outweigh the benefits of using these pages, then I suggest no-indexing them. I would say that some of the best rankings I've achieved using this system were for an article that I wrote for one of my sites at the beginning of the year. I'm not going to post the keywords or too much information about the keywords that the article is ranking for, but the keyword group (primary and LSI) receives about 9,000 searches per month (not a whole lot, but this is only for 1 article on a small site). In case you're curious, here are some of the current rankings for the LSI keywords:

The primary keyword is ranking in position 2-3 on average. Of course, these current rankings have been boosted a bit by people who have naturally linked to the article, but I was still ranking on the first page for this keyword group before. This whole system is basically just pure on-page SEO with good keyword research added in, so it's nothing spectacular and can be complimented with excellent off-page SEO (I don't have a guide for that yet) if you're dubious about doing this guide without it.

Now, if you want to go by best rankings and disregard the number of searches per month, then these are the best rankings I've achieved using this method (these keywords receive between 70-700 searches per month):

What I meant by intuition was that when I looked at the SERPs, I would think to myself, "is this a keyword my site would be able to compete for? In other words, I compared the type of sites in the SERPs for the keyword I'm interested in to the websites that I had successfully outranked in the past for other keywords.

I usually interlink my articles with a statement that has the keyword I targeted in the other article (or with the title of the article, which usually has the keyword in it).
