I know most of you will say that blog comments are so old.
I'd like to ask the hardcore SEOs here: Are blog comments still working for you until now?

Please vote in the poll. Thanks!

I wouldn't use them for tier 1 unless they are very high quality, but there is still a place for them.

I fired a client just the other day who expected strong results after only 3 weeks. His backlinking profile when I took him on had a lot of comments on it as he seemed to have thought those were solid for SEO.

I have not seen them effective as a main source of backlinks since the Yankees last won the series.

Never helped me in improving serp since last couple of weeks !!!

It will help you to get some social signals but for good backlinks - nope - not at all.

K.

If you apply conditions then they will be helpful such as OBL less than 20 till blog age, PR must be 4+

If you wanna do that then do comments on those blogs which required registration and relevant comments and removed the irrelevant content regularly but for that you have to search a lot or hire VA to do this harder task.

You had to fire him, you had no choice. Once you saw his brilliant SEO strategy, you knew he had it on his own.

Its not working for me, I used to rank Mid comp keywords with high PR comments but now Google is not giving any value to these comments.

His other main backlinking was forum profiles... so goes to show you that some people fail are calender challenged.

Don't use blog comments for SEO, you will only gonna hurt yourself. Of course, if you have 1% of your links coming from blog comments, it may actually help you in your link diversity profile or if you are building a churn and burn project, they may be handy, but if you want sustainable results - don't use them. There are also huge headaches because of the negative SEO attacks, as you see the stupid G can't distinguish if a guy build these comments on his site himself or if someone else hired a Fivver guy for $4 with Scrapebox in his hands. I hope that Google will start one day to ignore these links instead of punishing webmasters if someone use them for negative SEO. We are 2014 and soon it will be 2015. We should always be up-to-date, unfortunately too many people are stuck in time. "Survival of the fittest" - things are always changing and we should always change too, if we stop - we are dead.

I think @BassTrackerBoats knows what he is talking about... period

Blog comments are still good as long as you will use them ONLY for tiers (help to index contextual links faster).
