Hi friends,

Any recommenced SEO techniques for ecommerce site?

Specifically how to overcome duplicate content issue. For say, i am selling iphone 6 but 1000's of online stores selling iphone 6. So there may be lot of chances to occur duplicate content.

Please assist me how to do good SEO for an ecommerce site. Thank you.

For your onsite, you can take advantage of Image SEO by properly naming your mages before uploading them, using captions, alternative text and descriptions.

That is a step in the right direction for your onpage.

ive had clients with ecommernce websites before and i rewrote the product descriptions to make it as unique as possible

Duplicate content is the case for on site content... not content that is similar and shows up on multiple sites. There are a lot of first page rankings that are similar in content, sometimes even copy pasted and sometimes with a link to an original source.

Make sure you think of each product page as a sales letter so add as much valuable content as you can...

Short answer: write unique descriptions. Use a lot of flair, synonyms, etc. For example; don't just mention which color a certain product is, write about what you associate with that color, how the material feels in your hand, where and when you might use it. You won't have duplicate content if you put in some effort.

Also make sure you have unique category descriptions (text above products) and stick another piece of text somewhere in the same category (such as at the bottom of the page) describing your products. A good text-to-html ratio seems to help.

IMO you won't rank a product page for Iphone 6, you will want to create a category that is super targeted as possible.

I structure the category pages with a brief description at the top, then large tap'able image links below for the sub-categories (or just all the products listed if it has no sub's), then below that, another text section with a long'ish article with images all optimised for the target phrases.

You can go further by adding a link to a self hosted kw relevant pdf, embed a kw related video that you have published on your niche, link out to articles on that KW that you have published on your sites blog etc (which should also be linking back to your cat' page).

Definitely. Do some keyword research, and get as much quality content up as you can.

Thanks for your advice. My text-to-html ratio is 12.3 %. It is good or bad.

This is exactly what i do , and it works like a charm gives user required information and help serp as well
