What should I buy and what are my chances? Adwords says the competition is low (18%) and there are 200k SERPs.

Adwords competition is not the competition of the keywords ranking level but is the bidding of this keywords from the bidders.

I'd say get a higher budget. But it all depends if you want to do it manually, then you can do it for free if not, it'll definitely cost you alot more. I've been here for 2 months and spent probably close to $400-500 on software alone, that doesn't include my monthly's of VPS, private proxies etc.

Then the follow up question, does it have to stick? Is this a churn and burn or an authority site or what? It is really different what you can and have to do if you want to rank something super fast. It will not stick for too long if you don't build it with patience. Slow and steady is the best way to get to the top and stay there.

OP you will need to give us more information before you can get any kind of help here. I'm kinda concern when you say that the Adwords competition is low.

It means not many people would want to advertise for that keyword. Can ranking for that keyword make you money?

Check spyfu first to see average cpc and how much advertisers and ranking difficulty... Its not 100% accurate but for newbie like you will be much more helpful than adwords...

Not much you can really do with a <$500 budget, but this is what I would recommend

Step 1. Make ~20-30 accounts on different web 2.0 platforms (wordpress, blogger, webs, weebly, tumblr, etc)

Step 2. Write up 5 unique articles, then get a trial for one of the spinner softwares out there. After that, spin the articles to ~70-80% uniqueness and drip them out to your web 2.0s. Follow one of the web 2.0 creation guides floating around BHW and use your exact anchors for these web 2.0 links

Step 3. Get GSA SER + Captcha Breaker ($206) and build out a contextual tier 2 (Articles, Wikis, Web 2.0s, Bookmarks, Social Bookmarks) and spam tier 3 for your web 2.0 network using public proxies

Step 4. Write another article, convert it to a pdf, and drip it out to these document sharing sites with brand/raw URL/generic anchors.

Make sure you also keep the site updated with fresh content.

You could also throw a few High PR PBN posts into that budget that you can get from the Marketplace section here on BHW (Look for one-time options rather than a monthly cost). These types of links will probably get you ranked faster than any other methods.

But bare in mind you still need a natural link profile, so keep the link building natural and constant. Remember to also utilise many different anchor texts as mentioned above.

Use it for coffee and food so you can put in the hours to make more.... Then do the SEO...

But frankly...
Do manual high guest posting in relevent niches yourself. Outreach and article writing yourself... Use the 200 use a few for some quick fiverrs that optimize title tags etc... and a few links with the rest of the money... for that you can get 10-20 high authority links... plus onpage good... plus links you got... you might actually hit page one depending on competition..

p.S. it differs from adwords by a lot... people can backlink the heck outta stuff and not buy on adwords hence being a few bucks CPC but hundreds of backlinks required....

Its possible to rank with your budget for mid and low competition keywords. Build only quality links from unique related content like PBNs, guest posts, quality web2.0s with few articles.

Without seeing the actual site and competition I would say start with web 2.0 and then guest posting or any other contextual links.

$200 won't net you anything crazy, but it's a pretty decent kick off.

Do you mean $200 per month for SEO or $200 for all the SEO you will ever do on that site?

If it's the former, I recommend doing some tiered link building. Write and post the web 2.0 articles for tier 1 manually and then pay for automated link blasts for tier 2 and 3.

If it's the latter, complete some freelance jobs online and increase your budget.

I usually look for the ones that have been around for awhile with posts/reviews from recent JR. VIP members and then I talk to the OP to check if everything's legitimate.

Most of the time, you can tell if they're offering anything good because they'll be able to answer all your questions coherently and will be willing to go above and beyond, even if you're only interested in purchasing their smallest package.

You have to sift through dozens of services though just to get a shot at something that could be decent. It takes a lot of time, but if you have a budget restriction it's worth it than burning through your money on garbage.
