seocrab's AdSense journey to $500/month

Hey good luck buddy! :)
man I truly do not understand how people are getting paid off adsense??
I think I myself have honestly never in my life clicked an adsense ad! maybe only a couple ;)
whats the deal!

Haha, me neither, but a lot of people do. Thankfully!

Not sure though why you would pick a keyword which Adwords competition is 'low'?

Wow Promising journey, You have achieved your goals in past, i am sure you will achieve this goal as well.... Best of luck, Keep us Updating...

Not sure though why you would pick a keyword which Adwords competition is 'low'?

3 Reasons:

1. Low competition keywords can still earn good CPCs. PPC professionals often target them for campaigns, which quickly sends the CPC higher.

2. They can be part of a higher competition AdWord group.

3. Not all PPC campaigns make correct use of the 'negative keyword' feature, so it's possible to pick up high CPC from related keywords.

Nicely Laid down guide! Using this method, i have already found myself 2 expired domain names (a PR0 and PR1) with good Page and Domain Authority plus few blacklinks.
waiting for the remaining part of this guard!
BTW, i just went ahead and registered both domains via namecheap at $9.79 each with a free privacy guard.

So following this journey. Great information and high quality posts. I wish you success!

500$ is not lot of money in USA, but hey, I live in Bosnia.
Average monthly payment here is 300$.
When I was 17 I used to make more money from web then my father who is teacher in school.
:) GOOD LUCK

I liked your past two journals and this seems to be awesome also. I will follow your guidelines an will try to do something similar. Thanks for the tutorial on how to choose an expired domain.

Will you be ranking the site using spam or with quality long term links?

I really like all your journey. They are interesting :)

I have a question. How much weight would you give to Domain Authority ?

Example:

Let me assure you, the Domain authority is real :) But this is the only thing they have

And like 4 of 5 from the high DA sites don't have the keyword in the title or the URL :D they are targeting different keyword

Edit : Found the Answer

--> Looks like DA is shit. It shows that page is ranking just because it's domain authority. So, its a good sign. This doesn't apply in e-commerce keywords

DA correlates pretty strongly with backlink volume (not quality). For the actual AdSense site, I'm not really bothered about DA score. When it comes to building backlinks it will be more important.

I don't know if everyone is making money or what. There are gems in here people and SeoCrab is answering Questions ! Take advantage of this !!

Anyway.. Here is a pretty good question :D I have always made Niche websites ( not blogs ) with Silo Structure. I choose EMD+Prefixes or Branding my keyword.

Now, for this journey I will take the blog approach. And my keyword will be mentioned a lot in the articles. I have two options :

1 - Buying Aged Domain ( they don't have any PA or DA ... It has just the old registerer. No idea if Domain Age alone is even useful ) and of course I have no control on the name. But there are some good .com and .net names.

2 - Buy fresh domain. I will have control over the name but I don't know if www.keywordnews.com/topkeywordtips will be a good idea. having the keyword in the domain name, url, title is over optimizing if you ask me ! So, I might take the brand name approach in this case.

To Conclude, Aged Domain (NO PA, DA, Backlinks) with PMD... OR ... Fresh domain with EMD+prefix ... Or ... Fresh Domain with PMD ( if Aged domain with no weight doesn't worth it )

Note: I am competing in very weak Niche. Less than 30 Competition in Long Tail Pro. So, I guess the only way not to take it is over optimizing my website :D

Based on what you've got there, I'd say build the site on a fresh domain, but forward the aged domain to it. Then you can send backlinks to the aged domain while you build the fresh one slowly. OR, build your site on the aged domain and build links more aggressively. The right site really depends on your linkbuilding strategy.

Watch out for over-optimisation if you use a EMD or PMD; I prefer brandable domains with exact match urls (i.e. funkybrand.com/exact-keyword-phrase.

STEP 3 + STEP 4 : Building Site & Adding Content

I'm using WordPress for all my AdSense sites...

1. Install WP on domain, use QuickInstall on your cpanel or follow the ftp upload instructions: https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

2. Delete any junk themes/plugins that came bundled with the install. You want to keep the number of files/processes to a minimum for quicker loading speeds.

3. Install/pick a template. There's nothing wrong with the free ones; buying a premium theme is probably not economical for a single AdSense site ($40-$50 already gone) unless you already have a subscription or old theme leftover from another project. Using a nulled (pirated) theme is not a good idea if you don't know how to check it for problems.

4. Install some essential free WP plugins:

SECURITY

Login Lockdown

Better WP Security

SEO

Yoast SEO

Google Plus Authorship (create a new profile if you don't want to use your existing account)

Rich Snippets (great if your niche involves reviews)
http://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-schemaorg-rich-snippets/

5. Start customising the logo/colours/layout etc. Keep it as stripped down and simple as possible: the focus should be on the ads (when they are added...).

Adding Content

Landing Pages

For my first site, I have 4 primary keywords. I wrote 1 x 1000 words on each keyword and posted them on separate PAGES (not posts). It doesn't really matter which you use, but I intend to use the post function later on, so I'm sticking with pages. I used my keywords in the H1 title and page URL, and used the Yoast SEO plugin to write a custom meta description with some long tail keywords in it. This will help when making backlinks later. All page images have an optimised alt tags (and file names). Keyword density is around 2% for the primary phrases, and not measured for natural long tails.

AdSense Pages

To comply with AdSense terms, I added a 'Privacy Policy' page (edited a standard one). I also made a 'Contact' page and an 'About Us' page.

Homepage

The homepage is a STATIC PAGE, 500 words of content related to all 4 keywords, with inbound links to each landing page, an embedded YouTube video and a few links to authority sources.

So now the site is set up, I'm waiting for it to rank before building any backlinks to verify that the on-page metrics are good.
Will update when I see some movement on Google/Yahoo or bing.
