It's all about the KW's and products / services associated with those keywords. Basically high advertisement competition leads to higher CPC in most cases. Things like medical, insurance, mortgage, education, jobs - these almost always produce high CPC. Other factors are how well the traffic you're sending to advertisers is behaving. If you're sending shit quality traffic that isn't hardly converting for these advertisers, this can lead to lower CPC and in many instances you can outright get your account banned (sucks because often it could be out of your control).
Make a page about any of the common forms of cancer and slap an Adsense ad on it - guarantee the CPC will be high lol. With that said, I highly recommend not trying to profit from fatal diseases...but that's just my personal preference

Anchor text can be good and bad. Too much is considered "over-optimized" and can trigger a penalty these days. This is why many people talk about "diversifying anchor text" - it's almost essential in any 'artificial' backlinking strategies.
The best advice I can give you is no links are better than bad links.
The 2nd best advice is to not hit new sites with links right away...let them age a bit, build up social indicators for a while to get all your content indexed quickly, and then start thinking about building links.
3rd - Use lots of different types of links, not just one source. Use very diverse anchor text. Use as many "buffers" in between your money site and your lower quality links as possible (ie; tiered link buildling).
4th - Wheels still work, just don't interlink them in an obvious way. Lots of people say the wheel is dead - lots of people don't know shit also.
5th - Never take any SEO advice as 100% accurate no matter who's giving it to you. There are many misconceptions on the internet, especially in this field. On top of the misinformation that's spread, there's also a lot of theory involved more so than there are solid facts that This or That works. Trial and error, testing, experience and results - that's all that you can truly trust in.
Don't get fooled with those CPC data from Keyword planner or some people using there in Thread promising people to build websites around keywords with CPC > 1$.
Those CPC data are for advertisers who want to put their ads and website in front of Google search engines.
If you have a website and trying to use Adsense, it is a different price you will get from Google. You should use Google display tool to see how much you will get from that keyword (%60 from the CPC)
here is a real example :
"criminal defense attorney " is a very hot keyword and i am sure that a lot people here will say : wish they have EMD domain about that.
According to Google keyword tool : Advertisers must pay $34.41 for google : http://prntscr.com/2psckv
now the surprise : if you have a website and you use Adsense to monetize your site around that keyword : you will get paid only less than $1 : http://prntscr.com/2psc81

The keyword planner CPC is not 100% accurate but in most cases it's a good base point to get an idea of what the real CPC will be through Adsense...Ideally what the advertisers pay translates directly into what Adsense pays (after deducting Google's cut)...so if you have to pay $1.00 to get your site listed for that keyword, the guy using Adsense on a page about that keyword probably earns close to a dollar, not $5.00 for that KW - and vice versa...
I am sorry but you are wrong. the reason is how the CPC for those keywords are high because of the competitions but if you use Google content tool, you will see how much those keywords will pay you if you have a website.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, just expanding on what you said. And no - I'm not. There are a lot more factors than KW planner CPC that determine your actual earnings per click through Adsense, not to mention they fluctuate and change from one publisher to the next...but it is a "rough" reference point more often than not that you can use to loosely judge how much you'll really be earning.

I'm saying in a perfect world that is how CPC would work, but we don't live in a perfect world. I just didn't make it very clear (worded funny, sorry).

If you need to ask this question you won't make 5$ CPC. Reason being is no advertiser or advertising company (adsense) will display such ads on any site unless the publisher has a long history of respecting adsense and knowing how to use it. You will be forever stuck in the 30 cents and less pool unless you can prove to the algorithm and eventually a manual review that your site/content and traffic is worth the CPC you want. By that time your question is already answered. It is not as easy as pick high paying keywords and running with it.
As far as "results" they are EASILY faked.
