BEST eCommerce Solution: WooCommerce | Shopify | BigCommerce | Volusion

Im launching a new ecommerce store in the UK.
I would appreciate any opinions on the BEST ecommerce solution.

Ideally I would like a solution with:

- Easy Product Feed (API based)
- Coupon functions
- Complete mobile shopping experience
- Loyalty scheme
- Product zooms / closeups

Any input / comments / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I value the opinions of the BHW community.

Hey,

I'm using BigCommerce... the only thing where there are problems is a loyalty scheme. There are some for BigCommerce, but I personally don't like them much (not exactly how I want it). Otherwise, I really like bigcommerce. Haven't had any issues so far.

Woocommerce is good but i feel it's good for small stores because one of my client wants to setup multiple stores and going to add more products (400+) and he is asking me to transform the site to Magento. It's a big panic for me now.. even I advised him at the time when we were creating the website.

Magento since the back end is awesome and easy to use.
You can find great themes for Magento on many theme
based websites like themeforest.

When you are wanting to build an ecommerce website you
cannot beat using an ecommerce platform.

Bigcommerce , Shopify, Magento go are different environment. They provide the hosting and other charges. But i would always go for open source like Magento which has lots of flexibility and features to add and subtract.

I would suggest Magento if you are just starting up. Later on when you have the investment capital, you can have a professional set up a customized system.

Magento is a monster, sure it has an unmet features set, but in order to run it in a decent speed you need to invest whole bunch of money in hosting and management. Woocommerce is imo not a real e-commerce system. Or precisely it was too simple for my needs.

For my project i've decided to use shopware, which is a german shopping cart. It has a community version which is free. Great backend, not so heavy like magento and conforma to german laws (which will probably not apply to your project). English translation is also avaliable. Just for your information

I wanted to get started with Ebay but when i came to the step where it says link credit card or master cards then i am failed to continue as I dont have those cards yet. Finally, I hate ebay. So, I am looking a e-commerce site where we can sell free and with no cards linked. People can pay us via Paypal (Y)

I'm currently using Volusion to host my store. It's pretty easy to use and can be customized a little bit, but requires some HTML/CSS knowledge. Other than that I like it. I've also tried out Shopify and BigCommerce, but haven't dipped into the open-source ecommerce world yet.

never used volusion so cannot say how it is.
I have used zencart in the past but moved to magento for a easier backend and theme experience.
bigcommerce is a monthly charge and they host your site so thats a no go from the start
woo commerce is something I have played with it looks nice but not sure how robust it is.
I am liking magento right now. it is PHP based and the theme setup is easier than zencart plus you can add a mobile theme that sits along side your normal theme and it is only shown to mobile users. I like how easy it is to add extensions and it has a native import export so add one product and then export and then you have a template to upload everything at once. but as for API I think I have seen some extensions that handle that but I think they are paid. if this is a amazon or ebay store there are some extensions for that as well there is a free one but not sure how it is. you can check out magentocommerce dot com to see all the extensions available to customize. There is one draw back that I have found. once you add your products it does seem a little clunky to change them. the fact that with a php mysql site you cannot change qty on the fly is a little bit silly to say the least but I use navicat so editing sql quickly isn't a huge concern for me it may be to you

I guess it depends on your knowledge of PHP and MySql and your ability to modify things on the go. I am not a programmer but I tried to install Magento, OsCommerce, WooCommerce, ZenCart and PrestaShop and so far the easiest CMS with a big community and add-ons behind has been PrestaShop.

All of them are basically alike but I like wordpress ecommerce solutions because of all the plugins available and the
easy install of wordpress in general.

Linux, open cart is pretty nice. Its very developer friendly and the codebase is clean. Windows you cannot go wrong with NopCommerce. If your business becomes serious you want something you can customize. Both the above are easily customizeable to fit your needs. Hosted options like BigCommerce / Shopify only really lock you in. Working with their APIs to get anything done is really not the same as coding your own modules on the solutions above.
