Magento is a mess, a memory hog and overkill because it tries to be everything to everyone.
The only good thing it has going for it is there is a huge community of designers and developers you can hire to fix it to TRY and get it to work the way you want.

I worked on both, woo commerce and Magento. Magento is robust and very scalable platform.

Use Magento if you're going big , otherwise woocommerece will suffice.
